If you are getting techs quicker than every 4 turns with an optimised Tax rate for Science without caras you are beginning to be doing OK..

Very frustrating session of the game last night.

Everything was cruising along nicely until finbar has a brain explosion and gives makeo electricity. I can only assume this was some sort of perverse bid for a Darwin award for the dumbest tech trade ever because not only did it hand makeo Hoover dam on a platter but at one stroke pissed up against the wall the tech advantage of both finbar's civ and mine. Character building stuff. finbar said I should have warned him but a. I didn't know finbar had electricity and b. I would have thought it was axiomatic that one doesn't hand over electricity to a predatory civ until Hoovers is built.

It took me a long time to get over that one Much pursing of lips because that tech trade could have decided the game.

So okay I adjust my plans accordingly and build the Cure and start to feel better. Then I notice this deitician diplo flitting sneakily around my civ. I don't expel it because I want to see what the spotless one is up to. I ask on kingchat if deity has a unit on my land (whilst I'm staring at it on my screen btw). Deity denies it to all of us but sure enough "economic supremo", who has fallen hopelessly behind in the tech race, is stealing techs off me. He took about 5 in the first turn and 3 turns later he was still at it - he's taken about 7 or 8 so far - not bad for a player with a spotless rep. So I suppose now deity and I will probably end up in a debilitating war. I don't know why he didn't just ask for some techs. I'm sure we could have come to some arrangement.

I find this all a bit depressing because it seems to me that this game is really being handed to makeo, who is now in the box seat to win with Hoovers and a 3 tech lead. And of course makeo is now not trading techs.

Its so ironic that Deity says he loves the "diplo" form but he seems incapable of trading techs or maps or, well, any kind of diplomacy

I had a lot of fun trying to think of epithets to describe what you had done. I went off to sleep muttering "not even Hydey would have done that" - but decided not to use it because I thought it might offend Hydey, and anyway I thought actually he probably would have done it too.........(tee hee)

But never mind - you got conscription out of it - which should prove very useful given that makeo is now 2 or 3 turns away from mobile warfare

Nonsense!

You offer me an equitable trade and I'll trade. I've been open to tech trading the whole game except when someone offers me medicine for railroad when I already have sanitation, or for instance when someone offers me Genetic Engineering (CC Built), Leadership (already have tactics) and Medicine (already have sanitation) for Combustion, Flight and Refrigeration.

That clearly is a poor trade as well as a nonsense position. Why only the turn before I traded Refining for Tactics with the Horses.
The finbarians weren't interested in that trade by the way. Something about not wanting the Aztecs to have Tactics.

My strategy is clear and deliberate. I had to build a good infrastructure cos Makeo has the different continent trade advantage with all us three on the same one. This catapults his tech rate. I held back on Science to build and to celebrate at 40% lux. You waste time getting a tech lead in a tech trade/steal game. I end up the same as you tech wise but far better specs and I'm close to Auto too, but I want Leo to do it's best first.

I honestly thought you three were sharing and deliberately leaving me out so I had to go it alone.
