Yep, that's what I (clumsily) was asking...

To Mandaru my Brother - Pharoah's skirmishers have continued their journey eastwards, and no longer stand between thy men and their Moabite home.
We congratulate our Egyptian Brother with his magnificent feat in Canaan. We ask our Brother if this road will be accesible for Assyrian traders who seek markets in Egypt?

Thy skirmishers can travel freely now in the Great Desert east of Moab. We thank you for thy help.

An assyrian envoy has been dispatched to Persia, carrying maps and the Royal Adress. We await a reply from the Great Persian King.

There's no question that your game is not using the SoG unit.bmp and rules.txt files, so your savegame file is definitely in the wrong folder.

BTW, the name of the scenario folder (ending in b or p) isn't as important as the contents. Be sure that you've downloaded the PBEM version of SoG (available HERE) and follow the directions in the Readme-PBEM file with respect to folder location and naming convention.

From what I understand of that Civ game of yours, it's all about launching one's own spaceship before the others do. So this is no big news after all: my father just beat you all to the stars once more. - Philippe Baise

Indeed my Brother. In fact merchants from all nations are invited to travel along this road. Military Scouts investigating Egypt's Sphere of Influence inside the land of Canaan may use it sporadically, but must begin and end their day's journey in such fashion as not to inhibit the passage of Egyptian travelers. To encourage trade, this rule is waived in the case of caravans.

As a reminder to all Pharoah's Brothers, foreign military units are prohibited from entry into Egypt proper (Guards have been posted at the western edge of the Sinai Desert to remind those who lose their way.)

Advice from the author is the best I can expect.
I shall do my best to test everything before monday and let you know.

and I have tested and checked anything I was able to test and check:
all the other savegames (for example the one sent by Stefan Härtel to Klaus Engel) work fine, but the one sent by Klaus to me doesn't.
Could someone d/load that save (pbem_bc_3060_to_ minoans.zip) and let me know if it works.

                    • Strange...
I downloaded my own save again, but it works fine. Let's have another try, this time unzipped...
                      Good luck!

                            • 1) "Technical' report (from La Fayette)

As you all have understood, I am NOT a specialist in computer science . Anyway the new file sent by Klaus (unzipped) works like a charm (therefore I suppose there was a problem with MY unzipping his previous file ).
Apparently, the only remaining problem is that my foreign advisor tells me that I am in contact with 3 civs (which is the truth), but the 'chat with kings' tells me that I haven't met anyone yet.

                              2) "Historical" report (from Minos)

A peaceful Minoan skirmisher wandering along the Southern coast of Anatolia met a supposedly peaceful Assyrian skirmisher. The polite Minoan said 'hello', the supposedly polite Assyrian replied 'give me 300 gold'.
The Minoan said 'no thank you'. The Assyrian said 'war'.

Here is the point of view of Minos:

The Hittites asked for help from the Minoans a few years ago, because they had 'problems' with the Assyrians. The Minoans have therefore been allied with the Hittites since then. But meanwhile a cease fire has been signed between Assyrians and Hittites.
Therefore Minos sees no reason to be at war with Assyria any longer. He asks the Assyrian leader to tell his wandering skirmishers to behave more politely and feels ready to forget the incident.

I think that's OK. For Civ2 engine you are in contact with 3 civs, but with no human civ.
