  • So you liked my pictures enough to try Barb Wrath for yourself, eh?

No, I can do without scores of barbs tromping everything in sight. Doesn't matter that the Def 4 Palace Guard is fully capable of repelling a dozen attacks per turn. Any other mil unit in the city will have to face an attacker if the Guard is damaged a little, which they often don't survive. You can't move anything out of the city.

      Bumping for Stefan (Persia)

      On a side note:

A tournament has started between the nations of Persia, Babylonia and Assyria.
Eleven man from each country are playing the game of 'football', where each team tries to kick the head of a sheep between two posts planted at the back of the field of each respective team.

Yesterday, the nations of Assyria and Persia played the opening match, and the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

in three days, Assyria and Babylonia will play their match, while four days later Persia and Babylonia will slog it out in neutral territory south-east of the Assyrian city of Arrapkha, where the three countries share a common border.

The winner of this tournament will be crowned 'Eastern-Asian-Champion'

It is roumored that also the Minoans are quite skilled in this game, and perhaps we can invite the Minoans to play a match against our champion?

(sorry kengel, couldn't fit you in (with Stefan being the first german player in this game )

[edit]For you Americans: this refers to the European Championships, where Germany, Czechia and Holland are all in the same 'pool' (together with Latvia) trying to get a place in the quarter finals. Only first and second place will do, and if France does well, one of us is bound to play France later on)[/edit]

No problem: the French goalkeeper is so lucky (... clever ?) that France will do well

(... but I couldn't care less: I hate those supporters who look ready to kill supporters of the opposite team if anything goes wrong ).

        • There is another team that wants to participate in our foothead tournament - barbarians. They threatened our cities and traders until we accepted they may participate as a 4th team. On Tuesday we gained a glorious victory 2-1. I suppose they will want to revenge on Persian team soon.

          • Persia is anxiously awaiting the game between the Persians and the Sacans of the Baltic tomorrow! We think of the Assyrians and the Babylonians as being equally worthy of joining us in the next round, and we wish there could be three teams... but in the end, there can be only ONE (Persia)!!!!

The people of Persia became sick of their Great Kings being named Cyrus without exception and challenged Cyrus LIX to give his son a different name, or they would declare Persia a People's Republic.
So Persia became a Communist country.
A series of incomprehensible events occured, however, and it again became an old-fashioned Oriental Despoty. But this time, the Great King was wiser and, although having the birth name Cyrus, gave himself the throne name of Achaemenes.
            And everybody was happy.

Indeed a great game between Babylonia and Assyria, with a lucky escape for the Babylonians.

The referee is declared persona non-grata in the Assyrian Empire, for sending an Assyrian player off the field for no apparent reason.
The Assyrian coach will be send to the mines north of Nineveh for rediculous substites in the team during the play. (Robben out for Bosveldt in )

Nevertheless congratulations to the Babylonians for playing a great game, and giving the spectators a game they will remember for generations to come.

                  • Indeed, Babylonians can't complain against the referee. We noticed several small errors or problematical moments that helped our team.
Fortunately no such error like when Minoans played with their Adriatic neighbours

Remember Maradona and his "hand of God"
Referee is a difficult job, especially when million of people are able to replay again and again what he was bound to notice within less than half a second.

The greek civ agrees to your thinkings about running around on green fields (maybe because some thinks a second german player would not fit in )

The greek pronounce their very own version of tournament:
Of course it has some modified rules.
Playing times is approximately two times five minutes. Instead of kicking away some round ball, the goal is to catch the great amphore of wine, and to carry it to the own goal.
In the break (about 90 minutes), greek cheerleader are dancing.

Other nations are invited to join (as long as they bring with them their cheerleader )

                            oh, I forgot:
                            here is the turn- enjoy!
                            Nothing new...

and plays one turn meanwhile (peaceful traders are informed that a Minoan city will be founded very soon on the western coast of the island of Cyprus, in accordance with the 'Assyrian agreement': the valiant native defender of the village finally said 'yes'... with a long sword through the body).
