Well, I played a bit last week. Turned out so-so...

I wasn't able to start my war with the French early enough, and they allied with the Axis. The russians started a war with me, but they just started throwing fighters at my fortified fighter in a city on a hill. Needless to say there is a russian graveyard outside

I might have to bipass the French for now and invade Spain, as I am NO WHERE near strong enough to counter an Axis attack. Kind of funny historically, though... Hehe the French, Axis and Allies are all allied together in a war against the Russians.

      Latest news
June 1963: Turkish troops in Tangiers.
All objective cities are now Turkish.
      President Mmluke rules the world

(a lot of AI cheats in the endgame... as usual, but we had some gold and President Mmluke decided that he would rather send a few spies and buy the remaining Russian cities than send dozens of howies
and be hit by one more nuke coming from nowhere)

According to my dictionary there is a tad of distinction between La Fayette and La Faillite - I would like to think, Monsieur Bourjade, that this was a typographic error and not an insult.

Thank you for your helping hand, but I think it is not needed.
I suppose that Mr Bourjade is a very young man, probably not much older than 15. He probably forgot that 'le calembour est la fiente de l'esprit' and meant it as a joke. I hope that he will have enough brains to try and improve his level in english and other useful knowledge, instead of sending us new pieces of dubious humour.

                WW2 SCENARIO WITH SMALLER CIVS

                Tiny Hall of Fame:

                French (april 1961): La Fayette
                Neutral (october 1960): EOL
                Spaniards (august 1961): La Fayette
                Turks (june 1963): La Fayette

Advice to those willing to beat these results:
Diplomacy is very important during the first 10 years or so (weak civs get crushed if they make war; hence try to be at peace and get alliances, even if the price seems high)
After that it's up to you (though I wouldn't advise to start conquering before you have howies (I won without howies a long time ago but I was playing the Russians )
Destroying a small civ early is probably a good idea since it gives you the opportunity to split one of the big three when taking the capital.
Hunting the Manhattan Project is also a good idea (EOL did that heartily and avoided nuclear war; I didn't, at least not enough to avoid it being completed, and got at least 20 nukes in each game; believe me: it hurts!)
                Anyway, this challenge is FUN

Oct. 1958 with the neutruals. I got the trade going early to the allies, got all of scandinavia very quickly, got robotics and mobile warfare from the brits and also from science bonuses from the caravans. (Tehran kept supplying oil. ) Then I systematically took russia from the north down. Meanwhile, I bought a huge number of tanks and howies in Tehran and some other little cities in the middle east. The russians had many of their southern cities defended with only one rifleman, because the units were all idiotically murdering themselves against my impregnable cities. . After I took russia, I started pouring in the trade to england. (I founded a couple of airport cities in Ireland.) I could buy howies and tanks by the dozen every turn. Later the english sneak attacked me, so I used the airport cities to bring in howies, and I took england in a few turns. Then I attacked the Nazis from all sides, snapping up the turks spanish and french while I was at it. Last city conquered in 1958.

...and the Hall of Fame was 20 minutes old
                    ...and obsolete (thank you SilverDragon)

                    Therefore:

                    French (april 61): La Fayette
                    Neutral (oct 58): SilverDragon
                    Spaniards (aug 61): La Fayette
                    Turks (june 63): La Fayette

No great surprise! I found this one the most difficult of all.
Anyway, the problem #1 is to stay alive during the first years.
I chose trying to ally with my most dangerous neighbours, namely the Allies and the Russians. Having neither knowledge nor money to offer, I offered my poor non vet units.
The Allies laughed at me but accepted the Alliance. The Russians accepted one rifleman and denied to ally, but they accepted a few turns later. This provided peace with the 'big three' during almost ten years. A few problems with the French and the Neutrals (mostly after I took Beirut and Damascus from the French) but nothing to worry about.
Problem #2 is to avoid to get impatient and attack the Axis too soon (since the Turks are weaker than both the French and the Spaniards and it takes quite a long time to grow to some kind of reasonable strength).
Then I noticed that the Axis was mostly strong on defence (about 10 units/city) and I decided to have a try with a small army (about 10 howies on the average) and it worked.
Many problems later on (nukes, oh my god, coordinated sneak attacks, coordinated bomber attacks against my engineers, etc...).
But, as you know, one feels better after having beaten one of the big 3.
Summing up, I am far from sure that my early game was optimal, but it worked. I am happy with my conquest of the Axis empire (which shows that new fighting methods can be imagined even after playing many games). I am very unhappy with what happened later on, but it was fun, since it brought some kind of suspense in the late game.
I'm with you, SD. Be a nice boy to start with. Then get real nasty when you feel strong enough

December '61 with the turks. This was on my fourth try. The first two tries were embarrassing. The third was April '64. This one was good because I had eliminated the French without going to war with anyone else. I got an embassy, switched to commie, and waited until they had no alliances, particularly not one with the Allies, and then attacked Beirut and Tangiers. They were allied with the neutruals, but who gives? The African cities went down without a fight, and then I attacked the french mainland, starting with vichy. Marseilles was hard, because it was walled. After I destroyed the french, I went for the spanish, who were extremely antisocial to everybody. Almost none of their cities were walled. Meanwhile, Turkey stopped building armors, and started building freights. I did the infamous "Airport trick" to England, and within a few turns, I was rolling in dough and the science bonuses alone got me robotics. The Axis never knew what hit them. Halfway through conquering Germany, I got sneak attacked in the middle east by the Allies. So much for them. . I scooped up all the little cities in africa and the middle east with the turkish army, and then did the big attack on russia. Last city conquered in December 1961.

Enjoy the war while you can, the peace will be terrible
