OK... Ive reached an impasse. I'm on Part II and I'm pretty secure from Pont du Hoc over to Lion-sur-Mer and have a foothold in Utah beach with St. Mere Eglise and La Madeline. However, I've just realized that I've lost all of my combat engineers. Should I start over? Is it even possible to win from here?

Uh-oh... Most of my artillary pieces are over at the British beaches, while I'm trying to make an attack on the American beaches... I might have a few on the American beaches, but I don't think I do.
I have too many pieces over there and on the transports going there.... :mad I need to get them to the American beaches....

I think I'm facing a new dilema. I'm far bhind in time now, at the end of Part III, and still unable to take Caretan (sp?) I hold a bit streaching north from Utah, but the Brit/American beaches haven't changed. I failed to take Villers-Bocage or anything inland...
Should I start over?*grumbles about work*

The revised version has one BIG main difference. The big gun bunkers are now size 1 cities looking like bunkers and defended by MG42s and 20mm AA guns... This changes the whole dynamic of the game and makes for a real tough fight on Omaha. I also blocked the direct access to Port-en-Bessin from the sea with a belt of stationary mines.
I can release the changes anytime but I am trying to collect more feedback to get as much of it right in this first revision.
Who would like to proofread the Readme file?
How does Second Front rank in difficulty compared to RedFront? And as a game is it up to par with RF? All suggestions, critiscism and corrections are gladly accepted.

Nemo:
I'd love to proofread the readme! My e-mail address is CalvinAdam@aol.com
And.... it's hard to compare SF to RF, because RF is so much different from SF. In RF, you must go from losing a war to winning it, and in SF, you are the agressors from the get go and the german defenses are not "unbeatable" in a sense that the german advance in summer 41 and 42 was "unstoppable", a good strategy really makes the difference in SF.

I'll proof-read the readme. AVANT393@aol.com.
Nemo, this is definately up to the par of RF. Excellent graphics especially. It's different though. I mean, you have to play RF superbly in a defensive mode before you even get to take to the offensive. SF is a straight offensive tactical situation. I love it. I'm just not too good at it yet

Strat - don't be afraid to trade Spitfires that will run out of gas for FW 190Ds - you get a P51 and a P47 in trade.
Captain Nemo -
I haven't played it quite as much yet, but I like SF even better than RF - partially because of the amount of city management that RF required. Making the city improvements mostly unbuildable and worth zero to sell really makes the game play focus on the unit tactics.
I will also proof the readme doc. kcarlson@jurika.com
Cheers.Be the bid!

I think that SF is even better then RF. Its got better graphics, more detailed terrain and is harder. Somewhat ironically for a game like Civ2, the smaller scale also works better. It's also more satisfying playing as the genuine 'good guys' rather then as the lesser of two evils
oh yeah, I'd also be happy to proof read the readme: ldowling@dynamite.com.au

I'll send the readme to all of you right now... I think the best approach would be for one of you to just proofread what's there and for all of you to add your suggestions as to what extra info would be good, especially in the hint strategy section. I want to make sure I don't forget to cover an important aspect that could tick-off a player (For example that poor guy that spent all his time sending LCVPs back to the UK only to see them sink in part taking all his reinforcements with them). Thanks for the help and all the positive comments.
Has anyone fought the Battle of Falaise yet? Anyone been ambushed by Tiger IIs?

The readme seems fine. I couldn't spot any major mistakes or omissions.
Some sugestions:
-More detail on the map would be nice, and perhaps you could label the Allies primary targets, paratrooper drop zones, and the likely German troop concentrations and routes of advance.
-Include the allied units in the readme
-A tip I'd suggest you include is that the player should set up central supply dumps in the major cities, and not tiny dumps in each town as you liberate it (as I did at first )

Will someone move this thread to SLeague? It's more fitting there...
