OOC: Other one got mysteriously erased.... IC:

    September 22
    Omsk Defensive Line
    0300 Hours

22 TOA-1-4 MRLS's moved into position near the front. The night sky was illuminated for several minutes as over 150 rockets ignited and streaked off into the distance. The MRLS's quickly pulled back as soon as their job was over, heading to a resupply depot to reload with standard ammunition.

The rockets, meanwhile, were flying over the Kazak lines, slowly arcing down as their 28km journey reached its end. 200 feet over the men, they exploded in a firestorm, putting even the air around them aflame and burning all oxygen within nearly a mile almost instantly. Over 1000 men died of asfyxiation within a few seconds. Those were the lucky ones.

The 2000-degree inferno fell upon the Kazaks, melting metal, plastic, and most gruesomely, skin. Tanks and APC's were turned into blobs of molten steel within a minute, the men inside dead much sooner. Infantry on foot was simply fried, the flames burning nearly all skin on the body in seconds' time. A little piece of hell had befallen the Kazaks. This was only the beginning.

Four Siberian Armored Divisions, supported by two Motorized Divisions, rammed into the Kazak line right at the point where the FAE's had just hit. Over a thousand T-72's smashed through the resistance of the invaders, and within two hours the Siberian Army had effectively split the Kazak invasion in two. The Siberians then swept east, gutting the weaker portion of the Kazak offensive.

In the west, two MiG-29 wings, two MiG-31 wings, one Su-27 wing, one Su-30 wing, three Tu-22 squadrons, and one Tu-95 squadron were all flying high above the Kazak western advance. Air superiority had been attained early over the small Kazak air force, and the invasion was paying for it. The large bombing group loosed over 600 ASM's within five minutes' time, absolutely annihilating any armor the Kazaks had brought with them in thei invasion. Then, the fighters swooped in low, opeing up with the gatling guns. SAM's managed to down 31 of the planes, but not before the Kazak western advance was in shambles.

Two Armored Divisions, Three Mechanized Divisions, and Three Motorized Divisions quickly moved to drive into the Kazak advance. The Motorized Divisions headed west to flank the invasion while the Mechanized and Amored Divisions thrust into the enemy force, now made up almost solely of infantry. The armored spearhead quickly made headway, and was relieved of heavy fighting once the Motorized Divisions came out of the sweep from the Urals and crumpled the Kazak line.

Everything was set for a counterattack....

The Kazakhs, in complete disaster of the attack, have begun a full retreat into Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan, now under civil unrest with citizens rebelling that the government has allowed so many Kazakh soldiers to be killed, has begun a full-fledged rebellion, but specialists believe the end of Kazakhstan is imminent with this rebellion, which will tighten on the drought and will just make things in the area worse. Kazakh troops, some under renegade generals, have begun suicide missions in the Urals, ending up slaughtering some Siberian troops, but in the long run, being slaughtered themselves.

Italian Republic urges all Siberian Troops to lower weapons or face the dreaded Eurofighter! We will send out our VSTOL Carrier with Escorts to the Pacific Ocean, the Italian Military which funds are nearly twice that of the Siberian Military order it to stand down and stop this bloodshed. On the other news... several Officials say ¨No comment¨ after the Italian military was rumored of helping the Kazkh Armed Forces.
For there is [another] kind of violence, slower but just as deadly, destructive as the shot or the bomb in the night. This is the violence of institutions -- indifference, inaction, and decay. This is the violence that afflicts the poor, that poisons relations between men because their skin has different colors. - Bobby Kennedy (Mindless Menance of Violence)

OOC: Italian military can't aid Kazakhastan. Italian carrier in the Pacific would be downed, so I suggest you don't.

The little things like this make me seem skeptical, Giancarlo.

OOC: See why you shouldn't even try, Middy? IC:

          September 26
          Kazahkstan-Siberia Border
          0900 Hours

The Siberian armored spearheads joined together south of Omsk and waited. Behind them, huge numbers of MRLS's and artillery pieces were ripping at Kazak forces. The armor waited. Air bombardment began. The armor waited. Artillery shells and bombs raining down on the Kazaks faster than they could hope to defend against. The armor waited. Three days of bombardment passed. And, finally, the armor stopped waiting.

A combined force of 2,450 T-72's, 840 T-80's, and 20 T-90's moved in front of thousands of APC's, IFV's, and light vehicles. Hundreds of thousands of men poised, ready to advance at a moment's notice. And, finally, the notice came. The spearhead engaged the bruised and battered Kazak forces in what would be a hugely lopsided battle. 231,000 Kazak troops, backed up by only 128 tanks, met the Siberian forces. The defense didn't have a chance.

Five squadrons of Mi-28 attack helicopters races across the land ahead of the land attack. Armed with rocket pods, anti-tank missiles, and gatling guns, these machines were about to provide the first major punch of the Siberian offensive. They spread out, each helicopter assigned to unload all of their weapons on a pre-assigned Kazak brigade. Using pop-up techniques to first rid the brigades of any heavy vehicles or weapons, the copters then moved in and unleashed a fury of rockets and bullets. Thirteen choppers were downed during the fighting, but the damage had been done.

The Siberian spearhead smashed into the Kazak lines, and with the front defenses softened up, it was a matter of hours before over 100,000 Kazak troops had been flanked. The other half of the army was fighting valiantly, although desperately, to preserve their homeland. They didn't stand a chance. Three heavy bomber squadrons dropped hundreds of payloads of cluster bombs over the infantry, causing widespread destruction. Light Mi-24 Hinds were sent in to cause even more chaos and destruction. And, of course, the armor of the Siberian Army was mopping up, with Kazak AT weapons simply far too short in supply to do any good. Supporting Siberian infantry lessened their effect even more.

By the end of the day, the Kazaks were in a full retreat. Over 155,000 men had been captured or killed, and what little was left of their army didn't even want to try to fight. They were falling back to the capital, where most of them would, in all likelihood, surrender to the Siberians....

OOC: Thanks, Gian. I get to destroy your carrier now. Unless you decide to recall it by tomorrow.

Oh, and GC? Let me give you two handy-dandy tips about your "dreaeded Eurofighter":

            1. I have the Su-37, a better plane than the Eurofighter in every aspect.
            2. The first Eurofighter won't be built until 2002.

As Polaris said, there's no way in hell Italian troops are able to help Kazahkstan.

OOC: Whoops, you just made a little mistake.

IC: The forces had been waiting for almost a week now, and their opening was here. The Siberian armored spearhead had plunged into Kazakhstan, racing forward through the steppes of the former Soviet Republic.

Meanwhile, in Russia, a tremble ran through the ground. As troops climbed into BMPs and BTRs, the T-80 attack force led off. High overhead, Flankers and Fulcrums covered the advance. In front of the armored columns, Hind helicopters flew nap of the Earth, scanning for enemy resistance.

At noon, all hell broke loose.

Thousands of artillery shells crashed into the flank of the Siberian attack. Behind them rolled the First Gurads Tank Army. The best troops in Russia, they had once held the west in fear that they would roll into Germany, France, and sit their tanks on the Bay of Biscay. Today, though, they were fighting the rebellion against the government.

Almost 1000 T-80s roared through the Siberian advance. While the armor heavy forces concentrated on the Kazakhs, lower scale divisions were left to gurhe flank. This proved to be disastrous. The initial shock of the explosions amonng the troops was heavy, but as they came to their osts, their was a greater shock. Russian tanks and BMPs were hitting them

Within hours, the Russians had slashed almost 40 miles into the rear of the Siberian offensive. Behind them, the Third Shock Army, and the Eleventh Motorised Army waited to roll into the Siberian rear.

OOC: You can't outflank me, Middy IC:

Two Armored, three Mechanized, and five Motorized Divisions roared out of their rear positions behind the Ural line and headed towards Kazahkstan. Slowly, they made their way behind the massive mountains, until finally they reached the end of them. The Russian army was to their south, in a bitter battle with another Siberian Army. They were arriving to make sure that battle ended quickly.

The divisions drove straight south. They came up on the rear of the large Russian army within an hour. Now it was not the Siberians who were flanked, but the Russians. Caught in a classic pincer move.

The battle quickly turned to the Siberians' favor. With the Russians surrounded, there was simply no way for them to successfully fight. They were cornered on the Siberian's homeland, with the Ural defensive line slowly shifting south to cut off any reinforcements...

                    OOC:
A few Siberian rebel "divisions" (and that is a generous term for any unit in the rebel army) are encircling two Russian field armies? I think not.

                    A few other points.

First, the Eurofighter is not designed for carrier take-offs and landings. A specialized variant could be produced, but that would take time. Furthermore, HT3, since when you controlled Italy in DotW2, you listed Eurofighters in your order of battle since the start of the forum, and used them in your attack on Libya in late 2000 and early 2001, it is hardly fair to tell Giancarlo (or any other Eurofighter producer) that they cannot field their aircraft until 2002.

Second, you do not possess Su-37s. As of the current date, only design prototypes exist, and the plane is nowhere near as far along as even the Eurofighter. The Russian government never ordered any Su-37s, even after the prototype showed promise in testing.

Third, it should also be noted that the bulk of Russia's aircraft, tank, and munition plants are located in or WEST of the Ural mountains, not in Siberia. You may certainly have lots of tanks, and MAYBE some nice aircraft, perhaps even a few that are in flight condition, but you most certainly lack the factories to maintain that army for any substantial period of time. Spare parts are lacking, and soon so will muntions and other weapons.

Fourth, certainly western Russia can vastly outproduce and outman you. Less than a sixth of the Russian population lives in Siberia. Siberia is not self-sufficient in foodstuffs, which will very quickly present even more problems for you, especially with a typically harsh winter rapidly approaching.

OOC: Well, Scott, I don't know about you, but last time I checked, a field army was made up of five, maybe six divisions. By now I have nearly twenty of my own divisions in the battle against them. Slightly outnumbered, no?

And when I did the EF thing in DotW2, I didn't realize that they weren't going to be produced until 2002. I finally checked a few days before I left Italy, found out whoever told me that was right, and twiddled my thumbs and said nothing.

                        Su-37 thing noted.

As for the production things: Um, duh. When did I ever say I could outproduce European Russia?

Foodstuffs? Why, that's what Kazahkstan is for.

Middy, when you say the Siberian rear, there are several places you could go. You could go north, hitting the end of my Ural defense there. You could go south, doing the same thing with my Urals defense there. Or you could go into Kazahkstan, hitting me there. So there were three options for your statement, and I assumed that those armies were sore of sitting there about 100 miles or so from the Urals, waiting for something to do.

After a three hour session of congress, several parties have stated their opinion, that opinion is: neutrality in the Siberian war has been declared for the best of the Italian country economically and poltically. Even though the Italian Economy is larger then the Siberian Economy, the Siberians pose a threat to the European economy... nonetheless we will not go to war unless attacked. So today I the President of the Republic of Italy, and the Congress have declared a full, unconditional neutrality pact towards this current disturbance in Asia. This disturbance has been caused by several factions rebelling against the Russian Governments and gaining enough support to pull a nation together. Our Military stands no chance because we are not operating at war capacities, but if we increased the budget slightly we could go to war... but I was most anxious to announce that we are not going to war, because this war would have been extremely costly and deadly since our troops are not trained for arctic-like conditions. But that does not mean we are completely out of this all together, so we will declare sanctions on the renegade province of Siberia and its supporters.
