  • OStfront Playtest Thread

This thread is for feedback on the new Ostfront scenario.

I decided to close the D7 thread as this is basically a new scenario using D7 as a basis.
Thanks to all who took part in the D7 playtest, this new creation is the fruit of that!

Ostfront is a ToT WW2 European conquest scenario, where you can have different events based on what side you play as.

Features fairline graphics, evolving units, winter/summer transitions, great battles in the West, East and African front...

The same factions from D7 are available, and all events for major WW2 battles are re-done and should work better.

And to see if the new version works is the reason for this new thread! Any bugs, quirks ect, please list them here!

Anyone else wishing to take part in the playtest, please feel free to email me at; kurtziblingATyahoo.co.uk

    Cheers!

I started my career as a young officer in the Red Army. It is Summer '41 and the devil Nazis attempts an invasion on our great Russian nation. The first weeks were a desaster for the glory Red Army. One city after another goes to the Nazis, it´s only a question of time when they are in front of Moscow.

Until now the game works very good. The German invasion is strong, it could be hard to kick them back after Berlin.

              More will be following...
              American War of Independence
A Divided Nation - US Civilwar

Also playing as the USSR on the recommended General level, the Germans seized Odessa and Kherson, took most of the Baltics, and seized Belarus.

My counteroffensive was to delay the German menace as much as possible by deploying everything availible to the western front as soon as possible. I managed to have them stalled and countered at the June '41 borders until winter, where I used my katyusha launchers (I've got about 80 of them now, assembling another 56) against Finland and Romania. It's now the summer of '42 and both have been wiped off the map.

I've retaken eastern Poland, eastern Hungary, all of Romania and Bulgaria, and all of Finland. I'm going to be pushing towards Berlin in a few months, hopefully before winter sets in and the units slow down again.

I rushed production of research buildings in Baku and Tiflis and now am researching nuclear fission... I was thinking there might have been some event that would create an atomic bomb for me to drop on Berlin to show the Germans and British alike that Stalin runs the show in Europe!

You both bring great glory to Mother Russia!

I am interested to know should the German assault be tougher?
I can ramp up the amount of Nazi hardware, or increase unit stats...

                  Let me know any suggestions!

I don't think the hardware needs to be toughened up or increased; I'm losing lots of units on the front lines... especially little Kate! I've already lost 58 of them.

In the Soviet army, it takes more courage to retreat than advance...

I started a game as the germans on deity. The new stats make it a tougher fight. The luftwaffe isn't all powerful, and the counterattacks by the russians are more agressive then before. Nevertheless I managed to take Leningrad and Moscow just before the winter set in, by focussing all power in taking those cities (and Kerch in the south). Now consolidating and reinforcing.
Although the reinforcing will take some time since the winterproduction stats are considerably lower! Was this always the case or is this new?

I'm curious to see how the new unit arrangement will do. I miss my trusted StugIII, but the new artillery is definately working. Dropping the panzer III is a good one, and I'm glad to see you slipped the Coelian back in ;-)

Sounds like a good war! You faced the strategic challenge
of wading through enemy attacks to take the goal! Nice!

Watch out for those winter Sturmovik assaults!

I added the reduced production in winter for a little bit
of sadism and to represent the harsher conditions...
Any cities lost units through the winter shield drop?

Yep - Had a good think about what to keep and what was
not really useful...The StuG is gone, but I think you'll grow
to love the Nashorn and Jagdpanther as a replacement!

I've always loved the Coelian, and I think it fits nicely at
the end of the Axis tech tree...Not to uber either...Just
a cool mobile AA - Great for protecting tank stacks...!

Quoting from your previous (now closed) thread:

Also have a 2nd WW2 project ready for playtest that you guys might like - The Eurasian Wars!
It's more of a conquest quick-and-dirty-gameplay affair. Includes landmass from Spain to Japan.

Very fun to play, can send that once we get Ostfront sorted.
If you need a playtester for that, just send me the files (you've got my mail, I guess): I haven't got enough time for Ostfront now, but if it's as "quick-and-dirty" as you implied, and if you're not in a hurry, I could probably provide some (hopefully useful) feedback!
                              Ankh-Morpork, we have an orangutan...
