Gareth, a quick technical question about the campaigns. I have tried to download some but I they do not work. I take it I need to convert the maps using the conversion tool? I will give this a go now. Is there anything else I need to do? At the moment the campaign loads but the map is just black.
The maps have 2 components to them Drew. The gfx files (*.s16) need to go in the MAP directory in peg-ww2, while the map info files (terrain details, road positioning etc) go in the SCENARIO directory. Put campaign and scenario files in here too. All maps can be found on Robert's site (http://www.pegww2.net/Pages/MapsPeG.htm), and are already converted to PeG format. If you want any other PG2 map files, these need to be converted first to s16 format.

Generally campaigns only have the *.map files. You must also DL the *.s16 gfx files for each from the link above.

What do I need to download/install/purchase to run this?
No probs, I'll make sure these are included.

OK, what you need to do is DL either peg-ww2 or peg-nap installers and follow the instructions. Everything you need is on Robert's site:

pegww2.net is your first and best source for all of the information you’re looking for. From general topics to more of what you would expect to find here, pegww2.net has it all. We hope you find what you are searching for!

      The installers are here:

pegww2.net is your first and best source for all of the information you’re looking for. From general topics to more of what you would expect to find here, pegww2.net has it all. We hope you find what you are searching for!

To turn these games into PeG-ACW:

Get the campaign and gfx file (ACWgen.dat v. 1.0) for PeG-ACW here:

pegww2.net is your first and best source for all of the information you’re looking for. From general topics to more of what you would expect to find here, pegww2.net has it all. We hope you find what you are searching for!

You'll also need the ACW gameset files:

ACW Gameset on the same page.

Next, DL the ACW equipment files (the equip file is analagous to 'rules' in civ2):

American Civil War e-file 1.01b (alternate) uses my gfx (same page as campaign and gfx)

      Campaign files:

      Stonewall Jackson's War (1862-1863) v. 4.0
      From Antetiam to Appomatox (1862-1865) v. 2.0
From Bull Run to Appomatox (1862-1865) v. 2.0
      From Shiloh to Savannah (1862-1864) v. 1.0

These go in a new directory you need to make in the peg-nap directory called SCENACW.

Sound files are also DL'ed from this page

      Map files:

DL from http://www.pegww2.net/Pages/MapsPeG.htm The ones you need are listed in each campaign DL readme.

There are 2 components to map files: *.map need to go in the SCENACW directory, while *.s16 go in MAP directory (create both if they don't already exist)

Basically follow the readme instructions for each DL. Any problems, ask and I'll try to help

To edit every aspect of the game (scenarios, campaigns and equipment files), get Luis Guzman's Suite PeG: http://luis-guzman.com/

This will need to be pointed to the right files for PeG-ACW (tools> settings on the PeG-suite menu bar)

      EDIT: dodgy link fixed

Basically, you'll be interested in PeG-ww2 (the PG2 conversion) Ciaran. See the links in the post above for the game installer. You'll also need additional campaign files (the installer comes with 4 campaigns IIRC). Most importantly, the map gfx files are separate DLs. The ones you need for each campaign are listed in the campign readme's. See the above link for maps.

Thanks for the advice Gareth. I have got the WWII campaigns working now. Organizing and downloading the various files is quite tricky and time consuming but worthwhile as there is a great collection.

Is there an easy way to swap the various gamesets, flagsets etc...?

How do you go about organizing the various sets?

Is it just a case of making lots of backup files?

I'm sure I will work it out given some time and effort but any tips that will save me time and frustration would be appreciated

An Irish Brigade icon has been added to the PeG-ACW dat file and equipment file as an elite infantry unit. If you DL these now, Robert has updated them on his site.

You can have different exe files which call up russian, german, or w allied gamesets. These are available on the PeG-WW2 site.

Now "Faugh A Ballagh!" will echo over the fields. Yes!

Thank you, Fairline! Speaking as someone who has a thin streak of Irish ancestory (and a very deep streak of admiration for valor and good art), this is great.

                      Problem with installation:

In what folder does the Map folder (and thusly its contents) go?

OK, the graphics files for maps (*.s16) are placed in a subfolder called MAP, and the *.map map info files are confusingly placed in a subfolder called SCENACW (which also contains acenario and campaign files). Both these folders go in the main PeG-ACW folder.

Been having a lot of fun with the WWII scenarios. The Vipurii one is good and I have also played the French, Russian and American campaigns. Still having problems getting the Napoleonic/ACW one to work but I will have another try this week.

Gareth, have you considered using your WWII unit graphics for a unit set? I guess there is a lot of work involved? I will have a look at the editor utility too.

One question. Do you know how to move the Russian Citizens in the Canadian campaign/Iceland scenario? I can't work that out!

                            Glad your enjoying it Drew

What problems are you having with PeG-Nap; is it missing maps?

I do actually use my tanks and planes in-game, but of course I lose out with lack of multi-views over the original PG2 units. It doesn't bother me that much I gyess, as we're used to this limitation with civ. If you want, I can mail you the dat file which uses them.

I would really appreciate that Gareth. I'm not that worried about the units facing the right direction. Half the time they end up with their backs to the enemy anyway. The screenshot looks awsome, much better than the blurry original ones!

I can get the maps to work for the ACW but the units are still the HUGE old Napoleonic ones and the flags are wrong. I guess I did not download/install everything properly although I was careful. I will try installing it all again. If I still have problems I will give you a shout.
