Something a bit different for you here: PeG-ACW. This is a conversion of the game People's General, a tactical turn-based campaign-driven wargame which was the sequel to the classic Panzer General 2. Complete self-contained downloadable conversions of PG2 and its Napoleonic Wars derivative PeG-Nap can be found here:

I've been working with one of the PeG honchos, Robert Mary, to get a graphics set ready for an American Civil War variant (PeG-ACW). The installer version of PeG-ACW is not ready yet, but you can DL individual files to convert PeG-Nap to a fully functioning ACW game, complete with 3 CSA and a Union campaign to play:

The game iss fully modable, thanks to an amazing set of tools by Luis Guzman:

These let you add gfx, edit unit stats, create or modify scenarios and campaigns.

These units, the ironclads particularly, are to die for. You could probably convert the ships into ToT multi units as well.

Yeah, I've got all the PG games from panzer general and Allied General through to Rites of War. Great gameplay despite their age. I take you have PeG Typhie?

I came across the PeG-ww2 site a couple of years ago and I've dabbled with icon art thanks to Luis' tools Suite-PeG and PeG-Dat. The guy really is a genius.

Is there any way to acquire and operate the Panzer General titles now for the Win-XP PC?

I must take a look at this - PeG was a fantastic game, albeit it lacked the endless replayability of Civ.

That we before I found out that there are now scenarios for it out there...

Outstanding! I have been reading about the Civil War recently so the chance to play a "new" game will be fun. Its good that the graphics can also be used for ToT!
