  • I can't turn off the sprites

The switch added in ToT patch 1.1 to turn off the sprites does not work on my system.

Well, that's two of us John. Anyone else out there? I find it unacceptable that Microprose would produce a flawed patch and then refuse to deal with it.

Well, I'll remind the programmer about it and mention that it's showing up more frequently, but I can't make any promises.

One thing to keep in mind is that these are new features that were added in the patch; they're not really bug fixes per se. There are other ways to get rid of the sprites--though they're imperfect, I know. We tried to add convenient switches, but a patch, because of it's short schedule, doesn't really get enough testing time to make adding new features a good idea. We took a risk. If it didn't work out, I'm afraid there's no guarantee that we'll be allowed (by time constraints, I mean, not management) to fix it.

I figured out what it is. I was having the same problem too. The option to turn of the sprites simply didn't exist in the save files I was trying to use it with.

You have to start a game using the original graphics, turn off the sprites, and then save it into a directory with your altered graphics. You can't start a game from the altered graphics directory and then turn the sprites off. It just won't work.

But I did get it to work... it's pretty cool too.

I must also make a note that you need to Save As Scenario to keep the changes beyond your present open copy of Civ. Otherwise, the game will forget the options were toggled and turn the sprites back on.
