  • Creating an unofficial graphics update for Carl Fritz's Justinan the Great.

Well, it's been a while since I've visited the Civ2 forums and it looks like everyone has moved on to ToT.

Recently I've been in the mood for playing a scenario set during the late Roman Empire and there's only there's only one scenario that I could think of, Justinian the Great. While it is an entertaining scenario, it's in need of a graphics overhaul imho. After playing a scenario like Age of Crusades which is full of wonderful units by Fairline and Bebro, it's hard to go back and play much older scenarios.

So I've ventured to create an update. I used to have a large collection of Fairline units that were of Rome and her enemies, but I lost them some time ago. So I'm struggling to find replacements for a lot of the units, especially the leaders.

Here's what I have for cities so far. I'm not sure where credit to these cities goes but they look like Heresson's style. I thought the Roman cities were perfect since they capture the architectural style of the late empire perfectly.

Here are the units so far. Credits goes to Fairline and Bebro.

One has already been done, using Fairline's graphics and new terrain. There are a couple of glitches in the conversion to Test of Time that I've been intending to fix for some months. Hopefully I can get to it over the holidays and upload the converted scenario.

So an update has been done for MGE? If so, that's great. Could I have a link?

I'll try and find it. I know where I put the ToT version, but the FW version may be harder to find....

Justinian the Great has always been one of my favourite scenarios. It's very well done.

I made one for myself, using mostly fairline's unit gfx and some of curtsibling's cities.

So, where is this update that's already been made?

I wouldn't mind taking a look at the ToT update myself even though I don't own it.

Here's the units file. I didn't get round to finishing the cities file and I seem to have lost the FW versions of the units

As for the ToT vs. MGE thing, I have ToT, but will play an MGE scenario if it's good.

Well, I was never to familiar with ToT but there are a lot of scenarios for it that I'd like to play. I decided to purchase ToT as a digital download (using some of the profits from selling my copy of Civ4).

I look forward to techumseh's update.

So Fairline's above units are only for ToT?

I don't dare test it myself because of my shocking experience when I put the wrong gfx size of units in my own scen, and all the units tragically reverted to default. It took a very long session of retrieval to fix that.

Well, you could with the right programs and such modify them for MGE...

Also, I tried to convert Justinian from MGE/FW to ToT. Didn't really work out.

(So, if anyone has a succesful ToT conversion of said scenario...)

                            I do now...

Justinian the Great v1.2 for ToT (721 kB)

And another conversion that I recently uploaded and passed on to someone else:

                            Imperialism 1870 v3 for ToT (459 kB)
                            Sounds (1.51 MB)

These scenarios contain the usual raft of post-conversion fixes (listed in the downloads), but no other modifications.

Started playing it ... but why are the Persians displaying Roman architecture?
