help w alien vs human scenario

    Well, if you posted the whole units.bmp that would be more helpful.

    At first glance, if you are indeed cutting & pasting the walker bitmap into the units.bmp then the problem probably lies with the double green line. Those green lines have to match the green lines already present in the units.bmp file.

      No. I did what McMonkey outlined in his example. Made a box around a single walker, brought it to my grid and pasted/saved. I did match up the those darn green lines exactly. At one point though, I was editing and accidently went over the green line with a different color and had to replace it with the same green from Paint. Could this have been the problem HT?

          Here it is. Don't know how to post an image, so oh well.

          The green metal ball with small wings and legs is supposed to be the Gnat walker. The ATST is supposed to be the Raptor walker. The guy in chunky white armor holding a cannon is supposed to be the Behemoth.

            I don't have the walkers already pasted in there because like I said before, they crash the game and have all the units revert to default.

                  If you happen to have time on your hands, HT, could you explain how the walker pic could be a different palette? And how to convert it to the correct palette? Just in case I run into this problem in the future, I want to be able to not have to yell "help" again.

                    I'm not to good with the technical details, but it looks like the walker pic was saved to a gif which managed to screw up the colors.

                    I think there is a trick when using paint to get the walkers to the right palette by cutting and pasting the walkers into another file, but maybe I'm just daydreaming. Ask Fairline about converting the palette.

                    The best way is of course to buy a decent paint program that can load palettes.

                      So if I intend to seriously dive into designing scens, the PSP that Fairline advised is a must. Thanks for answering so quickly!

                      OK Fairline, it's now up to you to explain how in the world to convert the palette. Please explain how to in Paint, since I don't know how soon I'm going to get PSP.

                        Yes! After an inordinate amount of work, (this is my first scen so I was excited) I've finished my first beta version. This is to see if the civs are balanced and if my units need revising.

                        I haven't included a readme, so if you're downloading this, listen up:

                        1) the Global Resistance is supposed to played, but you can play the Hodads for an easy game if you want to feel

                        2) the Armed Cargo carries 8 land unit, the Carrier carries 4 land units besides air units.

                        3) Test Labs create Cyborgs, Labor Camps create Commandoes

                        4) strategy tips- the Hodads should research like crazy to get better units. The Global Resistance should strike hard and fast with its full selection of units. I'd advise rush building SDI defense in all human cities because the Hodads build artificial supernovas (nuclear missiles) on the first turn. The humans should hurry conquering the world because the aliens gradually get better units.

                        All done. Here it is, in rar format. (without sound, sound will follow in next post)

                                Congrats, Jerec: it's very nice to welcome a new designer!

                                Not 100% sure, but I think this doesn't work: as far as I know, you can have one or the other, not both! So test to see if it carries air or land units!
