No need to cancel the whole thing, just be adaptable.

You put all that work into it, then you must post the results.

If fairline wishes not to see old units of his on the list, then just work around it!

Ok, Teddy has been retrieved Maybe I was a bit hasty but I was annoyed at the time. I apologise.

I did not mean to sound ungrateful as without your work there would be a lot less to compile!

All I ask is that you accept that what you consider to be crap I may consider great work. I love your more recent Test of Time units but as I work mainly with MGE they are often too big to use or just don't match the other units I would like to use in a project as they are too detailed!

I was also hoping to fill in the blanks with my own mods, but I cannot do that if I have to try and match the ToT quality. I will certainly compile the ToT units seperately within each era so fans of MGE and ToT will both be able to find the units they need.

I would be very happy if you would allow me to post any of your units and trust my judgement but as I said before this is an all or nothing deal, I cannot submit each unit for approval and stand little chance of filling out the lists if I cannot draw on all available units.

The compilations are progressing really well right now and can be refined but I need to be free to get on with it. I await your response.

BTW here's my latest mod, a Thracian Spearman:

Interesting looking spearman McMonkey. Is that scale armor he's wearing?

Can anyone tell me who these guys are?
For the first two, McMonkey, I would guess Syrians. They had the pointed helmets.

The third guy could be anything...

The fourth is definitely a Persian or more likely a Macedonian Greek, Alexander the Great period. I remember that Macedonian shield bearers had that weird helmet.

Why doesn't anybody remember the original scens on MGE? There's a ton of units in there just waiting to be compiled. (And you don't need anyone's approval to post those.)

I know this had nothing to do with the thread topic, but I need help. Would someone tell me how to insert an alternate pic for cities? I'm making my first scen (utterly horrible, of course ) and I need to put in an alien city pic.

The Spearman is my attempt at a Thracian (from DBA Online). He is supposed to be waring a yellow outfit with a black zigzag pattern. His outfit is completed with a white cape and a pair of Jimmy Choo's to die for, so this season

The easiest way to add cities is to open the file with Paint (or equivalent) and copy/paste the new cities over the top! Or did I misunderstand what you meant?

Sorry McMonkey. You do understand what I mean, but I tripped up on another problem of my own. This first scen of mine has turned into a full time job to make, rough as it is. Now I can see why Eivind took 6 years to finish his Rommel scen.

Anyway, when I looked for the city icon in the scen file, I couldn't find it. Did you ever run into this? Also, what is Paint? A free program, or something you have to buy? I got 4 walker pics from the sci-fi thread, but they're not in the right size-480 x 256. Can the Paint prgm convert them? If not, what can?
(You might want to note that I use that in-game Editor that HT mentioned in the Paint thread.)

One last question and then I stop bothering you- would it be alright to start a thread of my own, to get help like answering the questions above? I feel like I need permission from one of the regulars, since I just joined and am only an upstart Civ 2 player/designer (although I'm not sure making one scen classifies me as a designer.)

Everyone has to start somewhere! Go ahead and start a new thread. Scenario creation is what this forum is all about

Don't worry if your first attempt is a bit rough to begin with, its a steep learning curve when you start but the more you experiment the more new tricks you learn!

Paint is usually installed with Windows and can usually be found in the accessories folder (IE Start menu > All Programs > Accessories > Paint).

I would start by creating a new folder for your scenario in your CivII directory. Place a copy of your scenario save in there along with a rules file, units gif, terrain 1&2 gif, cities gif, icons gif and cities gif. Then all you need to do is open the cities gif with Paint (or whatever graphics editor you have) and open a copy of the cities gif you wish to use. Cut the cities out you want and past them into your cities gif then save the file. When you load upo your saved game you sould see your new cities!

You can use the same method for the other graphics too. If you open the Rules.txt file and have a look you will see there are values for units and so on. All you need to do is edit the values and save the file then reload your game for the changes to take effect. I have always found it much easier to edit the files directly than I do using the FW editor!

I have included a screenshot of Paint below so you know what you are looking for:

                  Thanks McMonkey!

I have started my own thread.

Is it just me, or are there no units in the categories at the Sleague site? (Besides the three misc at the bottom.)

I am just in the process of re-organizing them now. I will soon add Fairline's already compiled ToT Units graphics. Later on I will add the MGE compilations I am working on

I have not dropped this project, just been very busy with Aeterna Civitas/Work/Xmas etc...

I had done a lot of compiling on work computer during evening shifts when there is no real work to be done, only to find that the paint program was losing lots of colour info. For example the black horses were being converted to one shade of black! A bit disheartening but I will be getting back into this as soon as I have some more free time!
