  • Conquest of a New World - Creation Thread

    Hello to all,

    I´m working on my new project; Conquest of a New World. It will be a scenario about the European Conquests in AMerica during the 15th and 18th century. I´ve many ideas, so I hope I can realize them in this scenario.
    Unfortunatelly I don´t have many time, so I hope I can release the scenario in the beginning of the new year.

    I will let you know how the things works

    And this scenario will be for TOT

    Exciting
    Have you considered which civs to include? It would be fun to play a conquistadore scenario from the native POV.

      I agree with EZ - It'd be good to be able to play as the native Americans.

        I will make two scenarios, one which will covers the early time of colonization (15th, 16th century) and the second which covers the time from the 17th century to the early 18th century.

        In the first scenario, you can play with the Aztecs, they will representing all Meso-American Civs. The another scenario you can play with the North American tribes.
        Playable civs, Spanish, French, English, Portuguese, Dutch (playable only in the second scenario) and some others.

          Sounds great - Keeping the Indian cultures alive in the face of European colonisation would be a great challenge to play!

            For units, you can start looking here.
            Gimme time and let me hack the AC game main database to see if i can get more...

              Could you use nukes to simulate disease?

                Hmm, that's an interesting idea, Boco. Remind meof the con's of using nukes, please (exept for global warming, which I know is major).

                  @Turno:
                  Thanks for the link. Maybe I can find some inspiration for the native units. I´ve made some mods from Fairline´s units, mostly Dutch and Portuguese units. The French, Spanish and English units are already done.
                  For the Aztecs, I´ve found Fairline´s Aztec units he made some years ago.

                  @Boco:
                  It´s a good idea with the disease. Maybe I can simulate it via event by using the Change Terrain option. Is it possible to disable the global warming?

                  I´m currently working on the rules file (mostly tech-tree and improvements). Also the Native civs will become a tech-tree to make them interesting for playing.
                  Some wonders will represent important personalities during the centuries. They will work like advisors for your Empire, so every european nation for example will be able to build Magellan or Cortez.

                    ChangeTerrain would work, but it'd be more predictable.

                    I'm going on dim memory here, but nukes half a city's population (a useful simulation of disease) and sprinkle pollution in the radius. The pollution is harder to explain in this context. Perhaps it can represent weakened farmers and craftsmen. Don't know how you can explain that they get fixed by settlers' work.

                    [Edit]Global warming can be eliminated by hexing[/Edit]

                      If you change the pollution icon to look like scrub brush or fallow, overgrown fields it wouldn't be difficult to attribute these to a plague that killed a large fraction of the population.

                      In this case, settlers are needed to change the scrub back to arable land.

                      @civ2units
                      Removing global warming is a trivial hexedit. If you post a save, it just takes a minute or two.

                        i thought of using "disease nukes" for my aztec scneario as well. i just changed the "pollutions" to "disease corpses" and gave the settlers the function of "clear corpses" insted of clean pollution. if you use an appropriate graphic for the "corpses" it should be believable enough
                        the only thing i dont know is how to remove the explosion animation and delay of nukes...

                          Why not remove the swamp terrain altogether and change it to desert. Make the original desert terrain swamps (or a special terrain. I rarly use swamps in my scenrios, waste of space imo). This way the global warming could be renamed plague, and the desert that now would emerge, would represent abondoned fields that would need to be changed back to grassland.

                          I think I actually might find some use for this idea myself...

                            Thanks for your replies.

                            The changing of the swamp to desert terrain sounds interesting.
                            Is there a special tech provided for using the "clear pollution" by the settlers?

                              That's sounds like it should work. The animation is found in Tiles.dll (IIRC), and you can edit them using Reshacker (for ToT) or Gif Extractor (for MGE).
