My graduate work is finally done. I am free. I may yet be able to play (read horribly screw up) a turn set here in a day or two. I now need to read up on what has been going on in this game and take a look at the save.

      StuporMan
Man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much - the wheel, New York, wars and so on - whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man - for precisely the same reasons.

        • @ StuporMan,

Big ups on finishing your graduate work!! I, particularly, would be most pleased to have you take up the mantle and get us launched.

          And, -Jrabbit,

It has always been the plan to raise the 'bloody shirt' after Launch. (See post 5, page 1.)

          • Thanks -Jrabbit and Bloody Monk.

I will see what I can do to get a turn set by next Wednesday.

            EDIT:

Turnset done, I should be posting the results sometime today. Just need some time to clean up the writeup.

            • I notice that we have some great cash reserves built up, That will come in useful when building our SS. I expect us to be very poor in a few short years.

Preturn: Adjust a few things, first off, Supermarket built in SSC. It may not do much for us now that we are at the end of the tech tree, but it just doesn't seem right letting all of those farm squares go to waste. Also, adjust production and IRB all freights that won't be built next turn that have shields already in them. I bribe a barb rifle to try for a quick 150g. This is also one of the cheapest way to get starting shields at this point in the game.

1460AD: Plastics -> Superconductor. Barb leader captured for 150g. Several frieght built. Shipping off to America to make the science happen. Give all techs to Indians for research boost. Freights sent off for trade research. After adding a few vans I buy Apollo.

1480AD: Superconductor -> Robotics: I should have traded the turn before with Indians to make FP available, I just didn't remember to check our tech number. This would have allowed 100% tax at this point and still get the last SS tech needed through van research. More freight used for tech advancement. Start pulling our ship chain back to use for disbanding fodder.

1500AD: Robotics, IRB vans, start disbanding units for starting shields, and purchase spaceship parts. Regift techs to Purple, due to some units floating around our canal city. Do not want SS production slowed one iota, it will be fairly close to get our SS build in the next two turns. Planning this all out was a bit crazy. I abused the vans->Oracle->SS part trick to get the best gold:shield ratio in our smaller cities, while trying to buy enough parts to get the spaceship done on time.

1510AD: Our army, most of our ships, and all but 500g are gone, but the minimal spaceship will be built next turn. At least I didn't have to sell off our city improvements. Although, it did seem a lot like a fire sale at this point. Everything must go to make room for our new Spaceship!

1520AD: Fusion Power. LAUNCH! Slider to 100% Tax, production set to howitzers and alpines. In this instance, building the slower ship resulted in the shorter time due to the 10 years per turn at this point. We could not have hoped to build enough parts in the next turn to get a fast enough ship to break the 1535AD landing time.

At this point I decided to play out the final turns. I still have the save from the launch (at home unfortunately), in case someone wants to play them out. I will include the save if I get the chance. I am also withholding my notes on the final countdown in case Monk or someone else wants to wield the hammer for the last few turn. I can post my log if consensus (and Monk) dictates.

              • Launch - well done!

Finish the game and enjoy as far as I'm concerned.

                • Congratulations, StuporMan! ... and I had already been worried that the turnset could have fallen victim to your post-graduate festivities rather than become a part of them. You must have played with a Columbian single-mindedness to get that ship off by 1520 AD. I agree that Bloody Monk should have the chance to play another turnset if he can, but even if he doesn't and your turns become the official end of this game, please post the 1520 AD save for us to look at the state of our empire just after launch.

Do we get to call you Dr. StuporMan now that your graduate work is done?

                      • ECHO...ECHO...ECHO....

Congratulations, StuporMan!! We have a Launch!!

                        What is the arrival date??

You mentioned a "minimal" ship and then a 15 yr flight time, so that point is unclear to me. If it is a 15-1-1-1-1-1 (rather than 15-3-3-1-1-1) then there will be a long "play time" before arrival. Especially if it is the longer time, many folk might want to take the Launch save and have a go at the AI. (Just don't kill all the AI. )

In any case, please post the Launch save for us to admire. Thanks.

If you want to finish the game from here, have at it. Many thanks to all for offering the finish to me; however, I must decline. I just can't "git er done" any more.

Congratulations and many thanks to all for a great experience.

You can call me Dr. if you want to, I just got my master's degree, but I won't mind

I know I said minimal, but I consider minimal to be with 6 components and not 2 (that is the minimum to achieve 100%, correct?).

Here is the save from launch. I will post my turn log on Monday.

                          • All right, onto the finale, otherwise entitled: Ghandi smokes the pungent weed.

1521AD: Buy some prebuilt weapons, click next turn. Repeat as $ allows. Also move remaining ships to be able to respond to threats from Ghandi (our only real threat as he has almost all our tech).
1525AD: Indians sneak attack! Take out our canal city with their ships. Howies and Alpines on the move to take out Ghandi!
1526AD: Bangalore taken from the Indians in response to the aggressive actions of Ghandi!
1528AD: Government collapses as I do not pay attention to happiness.
1530AD: Capture SoL from Indians. They have only two cities remaining.
1531AD: Switch to Communism for last bit of conquest.
1532AD: Indian civilization destroyed by our mighty empire. At this point I start moving our forces back to the main portion of our empire. There will not be enough time to do much else with them.
1535AD: Our ship arrives at AC, We settle the planet Monk 1 in honor of the eternally famed Bloody Monk!
