The chances of him getting in this round are almost none.

Our best chance is to move the people we want who are already near the top into winning positions, and then do the same to posters like Deity when they are closer to the top.

IMHO, Blake, Bloody Monk and Dominae are as deserving and Deity, and currently had more votes. I don't want to waste my votes on somebody who stands almost no chance of getting in this round. As it is now, it is likely that the three I voted for won't get in this round either, but will stand an excellent chance next time.

I don't think Deity can get in until the December vote at the earliest. And I'll have no problem voting for him then

              Ming,

I agree with your idea that we hardy few, we Civ2 diehards, should coordinate our voting as much as possible. To that end, I would appreciate a few points about the folk on the "Civ2 slate." I am sure I am not alone in wanting to know a bit about them. These boards (and me, too) have gone a tad slow of late so I hope everyone will forgive my failing memory.

To be sure, almost all of my participation has been in the non-MP Civ2 threads, Strategy and General. Perhaps that explains the unfamiliarity of some names. Whatever.... We are ordered not to campaign for ourselves, so if we are to become an informed Community someone needs to Lead, if this is going to happen. Because of your long tenure and wide familiarity with everyone, who better than you Ming to make up a list that could serve as an "election guide." (a few names with a sentence or three about each one)

You mention current vote count as a key factor and that has the "voice of the marketplace" to recommend it. Hard to discount that.

For me there has been three criteria that has informed my voting...
              1) Participation in and contribution to threads dealing with "how the game works" and optimal gameplay.
              2) Participation/contribution in Succession Games and contests revealing an understanding of the game and good sportsmanship. (MP group play would also apply.)
              3) Always showing up with good advice and welcoming demeanor when (new) posters ask questions about the game.

There are four players that fit my criteria (and have some votes) and I would tend toward voting for folk that I know about...unless there is some guidance to go by. Even then, I would want to make sure they each got at least one vote each session (from someone) so that they don't get purged.

I wonder as I write this if this should not be moved to a new thread. I can even suggest a thread title: The League of Civ2 Voters Election Guide. This could be an ongoing, perhaps topped, thread that would assist our effort to get Civ2 folk elected. But it needs a Leader...Ming.

Awaiting some further input before I vote....

On another note, I deeply appreciate everyone who has voted for me. I wish I could take all this positivity and energize myself to be able to play another game...just one more turn.

              Thanks,
              Monk

I have no idea who these people are, but I vote for Blake, Bloody Monk and Dominae. I owe Ming for unbanning me all these years.

By the way, didn't Tazidude play civ2? He died? I'm pretty sure I remember him. I just read it in the post up there. Oh my god he died 7 years ago and I didn't even know it. Wow. Holy ****. I hope I wasn't mean to him.

Yeah... I think he played competitively for a while... and he was a regular in our games until the pain no longer allowed it. And yeah, I can't believe it was that long ago.

Thanks for voting for the candidates I did. They are all deserving. Because as others have said, it's important we try to combine our assets to get these people in.

Thanks for the pm's guys. Amazing how much even a little information helps the decision process. I really think we need an ongoing "Bio" thread about the folk we are considering voting for.

About the time Civ4 came out I was trying to get up to speed and play Civ2 MP, but my health crashed and I missed out on both. But I am assured that Dominae is an Ace Mp player and that Blake has done much to make Civ4 more playable. While I think we ought to focus on the Civ2 folk who are deserving, including the MP'ers, a good case can be made that Civ4 is a worthy successor to Civ2, and that's a good thing too.

                              Blake
                              Dominae
                              Six Thousand Year Old Man

                              Monk (keep Civ2 alive)
so long and thanks for all the fish

That's seriously debatable. Civ4 really sucks compared to Civ2.
