        keep the mistakes coming.

I just changed Osgiliath to an objective city so no smart alec is going to be able to raze it in version 1.1.

          1. I don't think that the change is going to affect how people play the scen. There are 17 objectives and 12 are needed for complete victory so whether one tries to hang on to Osgiliath [IMHO, a waste of good units] or razes it, it will not significantly alter the final score.

          2. I appreciate the nice compliment. I take it to mean that I done good.

          3. While on the topic of objectives, the objective list contains a number of Elven cities. I assume that Gondor has to recapture any that may have fallen into Mordor's hands.

Yes, think of it as a salute to your ingenuity.

The chance of the Elves losing an objective city are low. The elves have 4 objectives, so that leaves you with 13. If lets say Pelargir or Cair Andros (and in the future Osgiliath) gets razed, you'll have to get all the remainder, only one of which is deep inside Mordor.

Though no one has mentioned it, I think its really the Knights which have little application. I think I am going to give them the Alpine ability like the Lancers so they will be an higher cost alternative to the Lancers rather than a slower counterpart with heavier defense.

With that in mind, maybe I should do the free random spawn for the Knights at Dol Amroth instead of Rangers at Fornost?

Sounds good, on both parts. If possible (if not, oh well) create a couple rangers somewhere around Erech/Edoras when the time comes, but really, Dol Amroth's knights should be where it matters.

Also: Why is Pelargir not fortified? Its significant enough.

I may be forgetting something posted earlier in this thread, though.

Its a low priority, but I think the Rohan lancers graphic could use a tweak. They don't look very Rohirric. Its a good graphic, its just not quite the right one.

Anyone else have feelings on this?

That is an excellent idea. I have found uses for Lancers, both for attacking weak monsters and, especially, for recce. Knights have been sort of a bystander because they don't have the D or the low cost of Archers or the mobility of the less expensive Lancers. They are like jacks of all trades but masters of none. I've been disbanding them for the lack of a better use.

But please don't change Lancers. Early in the scen, they play an important role in the defence of Helm's Deep because Saruman's minions are among the few units they can attack and expect to survive. Later, they can also be successful against the weakest Harad unit but very little else.

The game is on Turn 80 [Day 92]. The RING bearer has finally located the Eye of Sauron. Aragorn, protected by a massive covering force, is ready to depart Cair Andros on a raid to destroy the Black Gate.

he he he, its an expedition doomed to disaster.
Wish you all the best and may the Force be with you.

so I take it you'd prefer free uber-knights even if they come at a later stage.

Pelargir is a port protected by the river (and earlier by the great Numenorian fleet). There's no reason to for it to be fortified against ground troops I suppose, plus its more fun if its not impregnable.

There's no event space left to spawn both rangers and knights, I'll put a few extra rangers in Fornost at turn one though.

Rohan Lancer graphic - do you mean the shield should be green?

Yes. If you could please wait a week or so until I send you complete info on my game, you may see why.

Please, could we show at least a bit of respect for Aragorn's military genius. He'll be leading the ultimate "cavalry" raid that moves faster than greased lightning, strikes harder than a cobra and then just vanishes. Sauron will never know what turned his beloved gate into kindling and scrap metal.

I'm patient. So I can wait.

I just don't think Cair Andros is the way to go......... But then again, I have this sickly feeling I will end up eating my words.

Yeah, its more the "population points lost" thing of Civ that I hate. I wish there was a way to turn that off without building walls. In terms actually "can hold", its fine.

Yeah, just put a couple rangers there and we're good. Maybe have a few wandering orcs just to remind the player not leave it (the North) totally ungarrisoned.

                          Or not. Up to you.

The shield, yes, and also...they just don't look quite right. Too well armored or something. I can't think of an easy replacement, however, but definately make their shield green.

If something strikes (and I'd also tweak, given better options, which I don't know of, Theoden and Eomer), I'll mention it. There must be something somewhere.

Excerpt from Gandalf the White's "Compleat History of the War of the Ring"

. . . . . and at sunrise of the third day after our departure from Cair Andros, I beheld King Aragorn stride forth from camp, draw his sword and smite the dreaded Black Gate into dust. There was great cheering and celebration among our assembled host . . . . . . .

^%&*&$ you. I never saw such an unorthodox (but clever I'll admit that much) strategy coming.

                              good for you....

p.s. I'll be making the neccesary adjustments to version 1.1 to make sure your genius won't be replicated.

well your Frodo is almost at Mount Doom.... so I'll offer my congragulations ahead of time.

you spelt 'Complete' wrongly. Ha - finally got you.
