How many PC's do you have where you play Civ2?

Has anyone here played Civ2 over a home network?

If it's commonplace, that has ramifications for designers. Not sure about this, but maybe this would be a way around the disadvantages of hot seat mode.

Banana's my choice, but I used to do such things many, many years ago with a friend. Not civ2 though. A prehistoric game called Modem Wars. We'd be in separate rooms.

My PC is close to meltdown (almost six years old!) so I am looking to buy a shiny new one soon. I will keep the old one running for LAN though.
I once had CivII on the playstation which was not as good as the PC version, especially the controller, but was still a good laugh. It is also possible to get Civ on your mobile too, though I expect that would be pretty basic!!!

I would love to set up a LAN tournament. Years ago I used to have Sensible Soccer tournaments which were ace. Nowadays I usually play Risk (on a board!) with the boys, though it has a tendency to turn nasty at 3am after too many beers

I have two computers at home (in different rooms) and they are connected. I've played one or two multiplayer games against my sister, but ToT kept crashing.

My daughter has just been given an old PC so I may try and link them up and play her at CivII, she's only five so I should beat her easily

I have no idea how to set up a home network. Any tips?

I also found that it would run my old copy of Western Front which I used to love At the moment I am storming the beaches of Sicily with the Big Red One, bliss!

It's pretty easy. First if you don't have one already, acquire a router. Unless you want it to double as a wireless access point, they're not expensive.

Trip to PC world coming up! I guess I will also need some sort of cable? Could be fun as my PC is about 60 yards from my little girls one. I suppose I could drill a hole in the floor as it is directly below, which reminds me it is time to remew the home insurance

A wireless network is possible too... I don't think those are much more expensive than wired ones these days either. You'd need wireless network cards too though, while they might already have wired network cards built in.

Probably a safer option, my DIY attempty are deffinately at the Settler (bodger) level

The PC my little girl has is quite old (Win98) and slow so I may wait until I upgrade my one, which I hope to do soon, and move my old one downstairs. Then I will have three PCs! It will probably be a few years before she really gets to grips with Civ but it don't hurt to start em young! I think the tech tree would be a great learning tool, someone needs to come up with a Barbie/My little pony scenario now
