  • Bad news - when I modified the CNA events, and then fiddled just a teensy bit with the rules (made the merc's move one instead of three), suddenly I can't run any of the events texts anymore. Anyone know why this is? Here's a file of the most current rules and events files.

    • This is probably a problem with your save file. You might need to use Delevent.exe to get rid of the embedded events in the file.

What did you change with the events?

      • I changed the Turn intervals at which Abrams are spawned in the CNA events file from 1 turn to every 2 turns, and added events where Bradleys are spawned every turn. Just to give a little variety to the massive Union armies assaulting your land. (Is there any way that you can have one type of unit spawned during odd-numbered turns? I'd like to alternate between armor and mech inf, but aside from doing events for each odd-numbered turn or something ...)

        • Well, the events.txt won't work when I try to start up the scenario, no matter what event file I make "official" (i.e. change from events_.txt to just events.txt so as to be recognized by the program.)

And I'm not sure how exactly to use delevent.exe. I copied and pasted the program from another scenario's folder, but when I clicked on it, I got a DOS window that immedaitely vanished therafter.

Anyway, I'd be grateful if anyone here could look through the files and see what may have caused the problem.

Also, I've thought of naming the tank the "Liberator." What do you think?

          • Abrams to Liberator? Sounds good. It should add a more realistic feel to the scen.

Do you have a specific leader's name for the Union too? Countries always name their weapons after general/leaders: Stalin tank, Sherman tank, Patton tank, Grant tank ( also called the Lee tank by Britain), M26 Pershing tank, Renault tank, etc.

            • Why not just let the Canadians build the Stryker? Seems like a good opportunity to make available a slot for another (researchable) unit...

RE: delevent.exe. Just try dragging+dropping the save in question onto the delevent executable, that should clear all embedded events within the save. Also adding @DEBUG right after @BEGINEVENTS activates the debug parser. Opening a save (delevent'ed naturally) with this line in the events should create a new file called report.txt, or something similar, in the scen dir. At the bottom of the txt it should say what the first event that failed to initialize was ... This is a very helpful tool for scenario designers:b

For tanks names Gen. Smedly Butler springs to mind, but "Liberator" sounds better IMO.

Because the CNA's already using the Stryker and the LAV-25, and I like different vehicles for each different civilization. Which means if I give the Canadians Strykers, than the CNA's left with M113s or Humvees (Wait. The Mexicans have Humvees right now...) . :P

                I think I'll try that.

Looking at his wikipedia bio, I can see why the leftists might want to name a tank after him. I might consider the name.

                • Did the delevent thing with my savegame. Turns out that it didn't do anything - there's still a problem with the events files. Maybe it has something to do with the fact I shuffled some of the unit slots or something. I'll take a look.

                  • YAYNESS!
I managed to get the events files working.

For the "normal" and Union event files, all I had to do was eliminate the creation of destroyers and AEGIS cruisers, as those units are no longer in the game. With the CNA file, I think the problem was I had too many events - it exceeded the maximum file or something. Anyway, here's the CNA events file that's working.

That said, I'm seriously consider not doing rivers - given how things are going, I'm not sure if there's events space enough for the events needed for river gunboat construction.

                    • Alpha 8 is out!

In this edition you'll find new additions such as unique Mexican and Canadian units, gunboats, and the possible inclusion of navigable rivers!

(Yes, I know, they're all "port" cities, and thus can build Iowas and such just like the cities on the ocean. Said problem will be dealt with by the final release, if I choose to use rivers; right now, I just want some feedback on how they affect the game.)

New sounds included (the "armored car" sound for the Mexican armored recon unit.) So download today.

                        5th post in a row...

Anyway, since some people Seem to want the Canadians to have a LAV graphic, here it is...

(True, I'm already using the LAV/Stryker for the CNA's mech infantry and AAV, but still...)

                        • Giving it a try with the normal events in place. Haven't done too much so can't really comment so far on play balance. Just did 2 turns.

One thing though, is in Orlando you've got Shakesphere's Palace, I'm assuming you mean disneyland or given the nature of the scenario, maybe something like "The Holy land Experience"

                          • Gave your scen a quick whirl. Noticed a few things...

First of all, wonderful scenario! I happen to be an oddball, liking shorter scens on smaller maps. Your scen falls in the medium size/length slot perfectly. Again, great job with the city placement and units in particular.

I played as the Union, being a conservative and not wanting anything to do with Hillary Clinton! That said...

In one of the eastern coast cities a CNA AAV was being built, which was later "upgraded" to a Hugo Sanchez unit! Hugo Sanchez on the Union side?

In two cities the Oracle and the Great Wall were being built. The Great Wall was being built in Brownsville, for the Oracle I can't remember.

                            That's it!

Yep, it's supposed to be Disney World.

Guess I'll still have some Wonder-building to stop...

                              • On the balance-

The Union has a clear cut superiority in ground troops, with Fort Knox, etc building M1A2 Abrams and other wonderful units.

The othere side has a definite superiority in air units, actually. The Union does start out with a raptor/falcon per city, but in my game there was a flood of advanced fighters slightly better than the raptor concentrating near Reno. I made an air raid, and shot down 3 of these advanced units, but all my fighters engaged were shot down in the next turn by more advanced fighters. Sorry, I can't remember the fighter's name.

With this balance, I've been concentrating my ground superiority on the eastern coast, and have been capturing cities all around the one city I can't capture at the moment, the one Hillary Clinton is entrenched in with SAM protection.

GoD, did you intend for both sides to be played? Or just the Clinton/Obama side?
