ANNOUNCEMENT: EVO invades Poly PBEM section!

Hello everyone,

Some weeks ago the EVO site was put to sleep, and moved to a different domain. Out of frustration I advocated for a move to the safe haven of Apolyton, after the third move of that crew in only a few years.

So it might interest you all to know that I've managed to relive the died out PBEM section at this site, and that we now number 12 reliable PBEMers, and that we are growing with a couple of players on a daily basis. I hope to establish this as our new permanent home for PBEMs.

In that regard, I welcome all curious souls to come over and say hello, take a look around, and maybe even join our humble community for some 'ol spankin' civ2 fun!

Speaking for myself, I have been playing PBEMs for 6 years now, and I'm still addicted. There's nothing that beats the fun of real life diplomacy and role play, and the challenge it is to play against capable and rationally thinking human players.

I hadn't realized Evo had died down to the point of being put to sleep, I hate to see a Civ II site fade into obscurity. Though when last I checked it was a far cry from the old Civilization Design Group.

Yes, and we need more SL people to get into PBEMing. You're too hung up on Single Play against the stupid AI. Chose your favorite scenario, open a pbem thread, and ask for players

Yes, and Kobayashi has a very good description for civ2 PBEMs here at CivFanatics: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=17262

Basically, each civ (player) plays it's turn in the chronological playing order, saves the turn, posts it at the forum and the next player downloads, plays his turn, posts, and around it goes. It's much slower than SP, but in the mean time there's lots of diplomacy to make, and with the reliable players that I brought with me, a turn can be played within 24 hours. But usually a turn can take a couple days before you're up again, so you got something to look forward to in a boring week.

One problem I recall having with PBEM's at EVO was that for a game to stay relevant to the player party it had to be played regularly, which wasn't always possible with certain players. As a result many a great games had to be abandoned. Was this still a problem in the latter days of Evo?

No, only the most committed and reliable players are left.
