Now I know I'm not the best scenario maker here, but I've been doing it for 8 years so I can't be that bad. Currently, I'm well into Empire of the Rising Sun, the Contemporary Middle East, and Rise of the Third Reich (the last of which's problems I've mostly ironed out), and these should be released by the first snow (here, anyway) at the latest. Here's the question: if anyone cares, which of the above four topics should I do after that? None of them has, TO MY KNOWLEDGE, been yet done. Please select one, and offer a comment on that, and, if you know of a scen on one of these topics (other than MPS's one on No. 2 in CiC), please let me know.

So far, the Korean War is definitely in the lead. As of this post, it has 8 votes (including those of both actual posters), the Crusades has 1, and the other two none apiece. I may have to start hunting for North Korean infantry to fight for the ole' Great Leader.

And don't forget....Units are only half the story!
Would a 1950's scen have any scope for builing or the
challenge of bringing units from the US mainland bases?
And it presents a great chance to display early jet airwars!
'Mig Alley' anyone?
A Korean war scenario throws up challenges to represent
such challenges as Chinese intervention and the severe
winter weather and other interesting features....

I think a workable Korean War scenario would include event created units for the UN forces. Ferrying units from North America to Korea or Japan just doesn't sound like fun. I would include notable historical events such as MacArthur's landing and the Chinese intervention.
Make sure you use some verifiable resources for the timeline. The wiki page on the Korean War seems to leave out any real data besides a rather stilted portrayal of the countries involved. Here is one source that provides a detailed timeline as well a decent breakdown of the reasons for the actions taken in the war (it's written by a US special forces vet, so some parts lean toward Western ideology):
and another:
As for gameplay, I would include some trigger events that could be used to expand on the war, like if the UN forces pushed into China, causing an all out war with Communist China. I would keep the map focused on just Korea and the immediate landmasses, like Manchuria, Japan, and parts of the USSR.

Pretty much what I had in mind, Harry. I thought I'd have five civ's: the UN, North Korea, South Korea, China, and the USSR, with only really the UN and North Korea truly being playable. I want it to work to play as either, though (alternate .scn's and events files may be needed for that, however). I'm torn as to whether to use MacArthur, Eisenhower, or the current Secretary-General as the UN leader name (Stalin, Mao, Kim, and Syngman are obvious for the others, though). Also, how do I make it worthwhile for the UN player to cross the Yalu river, knowing full-well it'll trigger the Chinese? Here's the map I plan on using.Attached Files

I would tone down the elevation a bit and make use of your unused terrain types. Also, the rivers should be cleaned up a bit. The map is OK, but it seems a bit squished from top to bottom. Even with the isometric slant the board seems to be too wide.
If South Korea is going to be a civ I would make it so that the initial North Korean advance effectively wipes them out. Or, make it so that the South Korean cities have a UN infantry unit fortified in them. I think that the UN forces can then travel through the cities and defend them. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Whoever was the theatre commander for the UN I would have as head. The Truman and Eisenhower admins straddled the Korean War so having one or the other wouldn't be accurate throughout the scenario.

If those are the only choices, then yes, Korea.

They can, but only to shrink the city size and destroy improvements. Why not only UN civ for S. Korea?

Limited US units because that's what they had. If the map is primarily of Korea, then it stands to reason that only N & S Korean units should be buildable. A limited number of strong allied units would be realistic and provide balance and challenge.
