so what happened in the game last night after I left

Around what time did you leave? we didn't play for much longer, maybe 5 turns. Some wonders were built (PY, HG), some elephants sacrificed, a city razed with Crusaders. Apart from that, nothing much really.

with the demise if the aus civ group, I may have to go intercontinental to get a good game, at least until i get civ iv

I don't even know if there is a euro civ group, never looked into it. Seeing how rarely I play, there never was a need to anyway

There is still a group in germany and poland who play civ2, and off course the diehard 2x2xking msn crowd

I despise double movement. Beyond that, I'm not in search of a group, since I won't play too often. Also, Germans have no sense of humour (don't tell the OTers I said this ).

Our Game on Friday Night.

First contact between me and Ecthy.
His unit meets mine with no movement left. He begins king chat negotiations. No response. My turn, kill unit to get rid of the surprise round bonus.

And this is humour?

Nahhh... That's just SOP in our games. We always get rid of the surprise round bonus on first contact. It's just a matter of luck on who has the the first move to do so.

IF I'm going to talk... it will only be after the surprise round bonus has been removed.

Ming is right, myself and Rah spent several hours exploring the suprise bonus.

It is worth enough that it is worth remembering, you can take out a warrior or phalanx early in almost a garrentee win where after bonus has expired it is a 50/50 proposition.
