  • Simulating Blitzkreig in Civ2

Any good scenarios that demonstrate a good simulation of Blitzkreig warfare?

I've been toying with the idea of covering the whole map in invisible forts, and allowing all tanks with the ability to ignore ZOC.

Is there also a way of creating a unit that acts like a plane, but can only damage a civilization's improvements by pillage (Like a Tactical Bomber).

Find a copy of Case's Appeasement and Aggression and examine his @UNITS. He spent a lot of time trying to get Civ2 to simulate what you're after. IIRC, he also used your idea of giving the ignore ZoC flag to armor. Compared to infantry, they stunk at holding ground, though.

In some early WWII scenarios, the best strategy ends up using one type of überunit to conquer all. You're on the right track to avoid that.

Can't answer your tac bomber question.

Try playing the Soviets for the first 6 turns of either Nemo's Red Front 1.4 or Red Front 1.5, Colwyn's modification of RF 1.4 . Nemo has done a fantastic job of simulating the German Blitzkrieg.

Re tac bomber. A bomber in the spy slot can destroy city improvements but not pillage or cross ocean squares.

You'll find a lot of scenarios which do this.

Not as far as I know. The following thread looks at what is possible.

However, one scen did have a B - 36 D bomber that looked interesting.

Too bad, this would have been brilliant to simulate strategic bombing...

                Blitzkreig in Civ2 should involve:

Large fronts of infantry units, the backbone of the army. These need to be hit with bombers to 'demoralize' them; a bomber shouldn't be able to destroy a unit, only take away half it's health. The second half should then be taken away by a tank, who goes in to finish off the job of the bombers. Once a break through has been reached, the player can move their tanks (ignore ZOC) behind the enemy lines, as well as moving troops foward to reinforce the line. Technologies that give the player mechanized troops allow for this process to speed up.

Just a tiny note, it's Blitzkrieg.

The ignore ZOC for tanks would be the closest you get to blitzkrieg in civ2, which has been used in numerous scens, including my own. Also, the alpine flag and general high movement are popular tricks to simulate blitzkrieg.

Another possibility is a change in scale, rather than model all of Europe, focus on one of the fronts.

Nemo had all the kraut units have the para flag.

                          Indeed!

An awesome way to show the rapid German advance.

But really only suitable when the AI is playing the Axis.

As the para symbol is not really fitting from a player's POV.

Not quite. The only unit with the para flag in Nemo's Red Front 1.4 is Wehrmacht SG. It has the flag only from June '41 until Dec '41, the time when the Germans had the strength for Blitzkrieg.

Ok, what do you think the values units should be given in Civ2 to represent Blitzkreig?
