I haven´t got more time at the moment, gotta head to class. Anyway, it is now day 30 and these Lybians are defeated ...

With a little more planning, coordinating & using my money (in the end I had about 3000+ Pounds left which I did not use for rush-buying stuff) I think I could have booted them Lybians out sooner.

I think I will try so tonight. Anyway, good & fun scen

This breed of scenario is usually a blast...
The quick and brutal combat situation!

I too am now taking the fight back to Quadaffi Duck's forces!
My squadrons of Phantoms are making a mockery of his men.

When my M-48 research pays off, it will be time to lauch the
hammer blow to kick these pirates from sacred Maltese soil!

They will never lay hands on our most precious resource!

Day 24 as Malta ... gotta give them Lybians a try.

Btw, the northern island invasion of the Lybians is rather pathetic. Any chance you'd beef 'em up a little?

          AAR Lybia:

Well, maybe you do not need to beef up the Lybians. It is day 14 now and Malta is mine

You know, playing Malta I pillaged some vital roads and stalled the Lybian advance - unfortunately the AI seems to capable of this ...

            OPSUM FOR MALTA

INITIAL ANALYSIS AND COURSE OF ACTION
The best possibility is to take out the main Maltese cities as quickly as possible. Consequently, there will be only 3 major thrusts, towards Santa Valera and Valletta, towards Rabat and Mdina and towards Victoria and Cittadella on North Island. The major cities must be captured before enemy reinforcements arrive.

DAY 1 SIGGIEWI, MQABBA, ZURRIEQ, KUNCIZZJONI and SAN LAWRENZ were captured. In Mnajdra, a T-55 was disbanded to IRB a BMP-2.
            Researching Air Warfare (44).

DAY 2 The Maltese lost 3 M-113’s and a Centurion tank when they attacked our forces in Kuncizzjoni and San Lawrenz.
SANTA VALERA and GUDJA were captured. Libyan assault units are now assembled in Kuncizzjoni and San Lawrenz for attacks on Rabat and Victoria. Other units are en-route to Santa Valera.
            Researching Air Warfare (31).

DAY 3 A Centurion tank was destroyed in a futile attack on Santa Valera. One of our Mig-23’s shot down a F-4 near Luqa.
RABAT and VICTORIA were captured at a cost of 1 BMP-2 and 1 T-55. The Victoria task force will require considerable R&R. The capture of part of the Maltese treasury made it possible to RB an Armory in Santa Valera.
            Researching Air Warfare (15).

DAY 4 There was no Maltese activity.
GZIRA, PAOLA, LUQA, MTARFA, BAHRIJA and MDINA were captured. The infidels paid handsomely to save St. Paul’s Cathedral in Mdina from destruction and foreign airlines were absolutely delighted to ransom their planes which were trapped at Luqa airport. Luqa airport will be invaluable for flying in units and supplies. Damaged units withdrew into Victoria for repairs at the city armory. Units for attacking Valletta are massed in Gzira.
            Researching Air Warfare (11).

DAY 5 There was no Maltese activity.
VALLETTA, SLIEMA, ST. JULIAN’S, BIRKIRA, ZEBBUG, TA’ QALI, ZABBAR and GHAZAQ were captured at the cost of one T-62. The rich Maltese treasury in Valletta was ransacked. Enemy forces on South Island are now scattered and ready to be mopped up. Armored units and troop transports are en-route to Cirkewwa for transfer to the battle for North Island. There is a shortage of infantry to garrison captured cities.
            Researching Air Warfare (5).

This where I quit and took a look at game saves and scen files. I was very puzzled by the passive reaction of the Maltese and the absence of interference by other infidel forces. Just as well that I quit.

The Maltese have been building city improvements rather than units. Dumb capitalists!

The initial deployment of Libyan units virtually forces a player to employ the strategy that I used. Unfortunately, this hangs the Maltese out to dry, without any possibility of aid from abroad. That will teach others to trust empty American, NATO and Israeli promises.

Seriously, the scen is a cakewalk if played as the Libyans. Indeed, an unexpectedly quick end of the Jihad.

Technically the scen is fine except for a couple of very minor points. To ease unit identification, it might be an idea to add differently colored pennants to the radio masts of T-62’s and T-72’s. Jamahiryia (Communism) is supposed to have no corruption. However, as an alteration of the rules file has introduced corruption, a minor edit of the pedia might be in order.

I've noticed that saved MALTA games load much more slowly than any that I have ever played. Has this happened to anyone else? I can't find any explanation.

Good things come to those who wait? I've never heard of a slow-loading scenario, unless you're running like a hex-editing program in the back. For some reason, that manages to take all of the wind out of Civ2.

Oh, and that's what I forgot to do, edit the pedia. Well, I want to focus on new projects before I go back and obsess about this one.

Not always. Ask anyone who's had a tsunami, avalanche or truck bearing down on them.

I unsuccessfully tried most things to speed up the loading, such as checking for file fragmentation, closing all tasks except CIV II, etc.. Nothing helped.

As I was posting this, it struck me that I haven't shut the PC down for a week or so. Maybe one of the automatic updates had messed up something. Bingo!! Problem solved.

Giving the AI the preq for basic improvements not present in cities is a sure-fire way to slow down an aggressive AI. Besides preventing the AI from building improvements, you can improve its aggression by garrisoning AI cities with immobile trade units. The AI will disband them to rush build better units.

I think that there's a bug in the tech tree - there seems to be no way of getting Iranian soldiers, yet they show up in the pedia. Or were they a leftover, unimplemented feature?

Congratulations, you found a bug. I had a "no" instead of "nil" in the rules file.

Here's an updated rules that works.

What about the Centurion tank for Malta? Playing Malta, I had the armoured warfare tech & could not build them ...

Congratulations, this is a very enjoyable scenario to play
                              -edit-
Finished by turn 12, the only unit I produced was the rural militia. Two to three rurals can take out all Libyan armour in this timeframe. They are so cheap the Libyans had no chance against the self-sacrificing Maltese human waves. Busqett Gardens were a real bloodbath. No sightings of Libyan aircraft after turn 4 here as well.

Nice scenario. The units and terrain are great looking, and it plays well. I've run the Libyans off the north Island and have reached a stalemate on the south, loding the north eastern half.

How did you come up with the concept? It's original, for sure.
