  • DISCWORLD II for ToT under development

Time to start working on my first ToT scenario!

Making Discworld II for ToT will allow me to remove some of the barriers I encountered while I developed the first one for MPGE, namely:

    1) having at last enough space in the event file! That is really the main point for me! This will mean: more events, and even more crazy atmosphere messages during the game!

    2) multi-map! get ready to visit other weird parts of the Discworld!

    3) more units! Now Greebo and Lu-Tze will make an appearance!

    4) better graphics, which will allow you to help me again... (Curt?? )

    Development status

For those who know me, you can already guess that the scen won't be released soon...

Let's say that a good development forecast would be about 1 year...

For now, I already know some of the multimaps I want to use, but am still looking for some ideas about what to do there... I imagine some "quests" for heroes on them!

So please, fire you ideas and requests about what you would like to see in Discworld II: places, units, quests, anything!

Places that I would like to make in the multimap are:
    - The Rim
    - Death world
    - Temples, tombs, etc...
    - Agatean Continent (maybe...)
    - ???
    Ankh-Morpork, we have an orangutan...

        BUMP, and more!

So now it's time to really start working on this!

I hope to develop it before Summer, but for that I need your help!

So what do you I need your help for?

        - graphics: thanks for the offer Curt, be sure I won't hesitate to bother you with many requests!

        - quests ideas: I want to use the multi-maps for sub-quests (as outlined in the post above), so now is the time for you to ask for what you want!

        - units idea: now that I have a few more unit slots, what to do with them??

All in all, I want this scen development to be the same as the one for MPGE, that is a real teamwork!

So Xuenay, Case, St-Leo, greeny, Arthedain, Catfish, N35tOr, rjmatsleepers, curtsibling, duke of york, El Awrence, and all the others: let your voice be heard!

There are plenty of characters in the city watch that you could include - Vimes himself of course and plenty of others. Perhaps you could build a side quest. (I've no idea what is possible or not possible in ToT.) And ther's a host of characters sitting around with Granny Weatherwax.

I think the atmospheric messages are an important part of your scenarios. I like to have a story line and the messages keep the player interested by telling him what's going on.

          Good luck!

Sucked in by claims of a marvelous, once-in-a-lifetime DESCRIBE file I'm playing Discworld as the very Patrician Top Porker of Ankh-Morpork. I'm at turn 120, research ended a few turns ago, a couple hotbeds of monster creation have been shut down, but expansion is painfully slow despite having more than enough good units.

Applause - The DESCRIBE file is indeed as advertised: highly useful, complete and much fun to read. A masterpiece.

Question - Why oh why am I stuck with Senate full of %$#@&) tree-hugging, vegetarian, peaceloving appeasers masquerading as Senators?

Error - I've been swindled. According to its description, "The Luggage" should be a Freight (see, I do carefully read all descriptions). For that it needs to be in the Freight slot in RULES. It will be if you interchange it and the Barbarian Village.

Complaint - The map is very big and my little units move very slowly. Settlers are useless for quickly building roads. The two Golems do a good job but can only do a single road at a time. I would suggest providing 4 more Golems so that roads to the west, north and east could be built simultaneously.

Suggestion - There are frequent popups announcing the locations of new monster hatcheries. It really is difficult to keep track of them without writing down the descriptions. Any chance of a file that contains the name of the event, it's description and the description of its destruction? Of course, it should not include coordinates.

This scen is delightfully offbeat, humorous, ingenious and a lot of fun to play.
Excerpts from the Manual of the Civilization Fanatic :

Money can buy happiness, just raise the luxury rate to 50%.
Money is not the root of all evil, it is the root of great empires.

Indeed - Discworld is a really well-researched and crafted little (big) epic.

Cyrion, your creations are among the best in this current CIV era!

First of all, I really intend to make a multi-layer ToT version of this, where I might adress most of the points you made!

But as I first have to finish Pomarj for ToT + realize another top-secret project, this won't happen in 2008!

                  Was I really so obnoxious?

Yes, the map probably needs to be a bit smaller!

Thanks! I took me such a long time to write it that I'm really glad you like it!

I have to admit that I'm quite proud of it...

I hadn't noticed that! Will be modified, thanks!

Yes, I'll probably use a smaller map! I noticed the same!

It seems that it suffers from the same "youth problem" as Pomarj MPGE: a slight "lack of dynamism"!

Suggestion - There are frequent popups announcing the locations of new monster hatcheries. It really is difficult to keep track of them without writing down the descriptions. Yes, something about this can be done!

Ah! It is more than deserved!

                      About the DWII storyline:
How about a quest into the dungeon dimensions?
(hope I got the name correct)

                        Sounds possible!

What I have in mind for the secondary maps:
                        - 1 for the various undergrounds/temples and so on
                        - 1 for the rim of the disc (might be combined with the above)
                        - 1 for a special place where a quest will take place (I'll tell you more in the MP I'm sending you

But I'm still far from starting my work on it!
