  • Play Civ 2 without using the CD-Rom

Is there any way to hack Civ II so that it looks on my hard drive for the CD-Rom files instead of the CD-Rom? I want to play it without using up a CD drive.

What files exactly, and what version of Civ2?

For "classic" Civ2 you can simply copy the Kings and Video (?) folders from your CD into your Civ2 folder and it will work. You don't need to have the CD in the drive either.

For MGE and ToT you should be able to find no-CD patches so you're no longer asked for the CD. I don't think either of them have anything of value on the CD (well, I suppose MGE also has the Kings/Video animations, copying those should be the same as for classic Civ2).

If you also want the Civ2 music, they're audio tracks, so you could rip them and play them in your favourite media player while playing.
