  • Starting a multi-map scenario for ToT

    I you want to start a multi-map ToT scenario, you can use the attached Rules txt. file - it's as clean as I can make it. Use it in the Original folder. To control the number of maps go to the section @SECONDARY_MAPS, right after @TERRAIN3.

    6, 0,0, 0,0, 0,0,0,0, 0,0,0, 0,0,0, 0,0,0,
    ;6, 0,0, 0,0, 0,0,0,0, 0,0,0, 0,0,0, 0,0,0,
    ;6, 0,0, 0,0, 0,0,0,0, 0,0,0, 0,0,0, 0,0,0, [/insert]

    Each line creates another map. If you only want 2 maps, cover 2 lines with a semi-colon (example above), if you want 3 maps cover one, etc. Just start a regular game and select 'use pre-made world'. You'll be prompted to add maps - just make sure they are all of the same dimensions.

          This should prove useful for my latest experiment,
          i am using all 4 maps an basing it off the fantasy mod,
          it is going to be a rather dark and strange mod,
          I am not delusional! Now if you'll excuse me, i'm gonna go dance with the purple wombat who's playing show-tunes in my coffee cup!
          Rules are like Egg's. They're fun when thrown out the window!
          Difference is irrelevant when dosage is higher than recommended!

            Nice one, tech!
            This will be very useful for my project at the moment!

            Multi-mapping is a CIV area that still is shrouded in some
            mystery for me, and hopefully I can get my head around
            the whys and wherefores of this useful ToT feature.

            Jim - Yep, the four different maps can have totally unique
            terrain and values for such. Terrain GFX files which are
            named 'terrain1 and terrain2, terrain3 and terrain4, and so on.

            The rules file has terrain values for all four maps in the @TERRAIN resource section.

                  I think the city styles are the same for all maps...
                  But at least ToT gives us an extra city set to use!

                        Absolutely. Think of it as several layers, stacked one on top of another. Inter-map movement is between squares with the same co-ordinates. Events such as createunit, etc., use an extra co-ordinate to determine which map the unit appears on, eg. (47,81,0).

                        Yes, you can add extra maps to an existing scenario. Use the map tab at the top and select 'import map'. You can add up to 3 new maps for a total of 4. Once a map is added, however, it can't be reversed.

                              CIV2 ToT can allow the player to play scenarios on up to four
                              maps at the same time...And have cities, units and action on
                              all of them. For instance, you could have an undersea or moon
                              map, in addition to the standard earth map.
