Let's also give ourselves some credit. We stood up for ourselves, and won.

Hehe, I won´t lose the impression that you´ve become quite a revolutionary, Brian

Just joking, yeah, you are right about that. It is good to see this League of Creators, Modders & Artists of Civ2 continue to carry the Legacy of Civilization 2 into its 11th year

            Huzzah!!

Well done (at last!) to MarkG.

Out of interest, do we get our old titles back again?

Doesn't look like it so far... The posts have been restored, but that didn't increase our post count again. So I think if we want our titles back, the post count will have to be increased manually... And that'll be a bit tricky because you can't quite prove how many posts you had. So that'll depend on how fanatic you are to get them back and how willing MarkG is to just hand out some post count increases.

I can reliably vouch for every SLer's Deity status! Sadly the old caches have been updated with the latest user information. I used to be able to see King Fairline there, but the man who would be king is but a prince now.

I can't do as well as Boco, but I would suggest that those who joined not much earlier than the end of 2003 might find it interesting to open one of their posts and click on "SEARCH" in the top line.

As for the rest of us, perhaps Mercator can explain what happens to older posts/threads when they are removed from forums.

My posts, my poor poor beloved post count *commits suicide*
Start celebrating. There has been a miracle. Your post count appears to have suvived its *suicide* attempt.

I don't think I know much more than you do. The things I do know are because I know a bit about computers, not because I have any inside information on how it's actually done. So I could be wrong... I'm guessing the post count is a number kept somewhere separately. Whenever you make a post it is increased, whenever one of your posts gets deleted it is decreased.

When the SL forum got deleted, it reduced everyone's post count by as many posts as were lost.

Since the SL forum data was restored from a backup, it didn't automatically increase our post counts again.

The only way it could be restored again is if MarkG manually increases it again. But that would take quite a bit of effort and there will be very few people who can really prove what their post count was. Maybe he is willing to increase it again for some to, say, get back the title they had earlier. I just don't know. I'm not an admin. Ask Markos and Dan.

If he's really thrifty, I think he could write a script that checks through the SL forum and notes exactly how many posts were made by each of us in the period that was lost and then automatically adds exactly the right amount of posts to our post counts... But I have no idea how much work that would take. Seeing as how it took several months to restore the forums, I can't really see this happening any time soon.

Thanks for your reply. I have posted a question on the relevant Community thread.

What I tried to ask you is that the earliest post listed when I click on the "SEARCH" field at the top of any of my posts is 06-01-04 (the one earlier Democracy Game post is not relevant). I assume that any posts prior to that date or, more probably, prior to 01-01-04, have been removed from the active forum. I suppose that this is done annually to keep the forum to a manageable size.

I was interested in what is done with the removed posts. Are they archived? Do the archives have a backup? Details have been a bit sketchy on this.

Ah... I notice I was wrong with my above explanation as well, considering what you quoted in the A/C thread and Dan's reply.

I don't know how regularly posts are archived, but they'ee still accessible. Look at the bottom of the forum listing to get to the forum archives. The SLeague forum archive is here:

I'm sure the archives have a backup as well.
