Thanks fellows, very kind. You made me cry. Knock it off.

I am able to check in here at times, but I usually cannot manage posting. Most days the pain is overwhelming and I feel too weak to lift my head off the pillow. This condition has been progressing for a long time, but at least my mind still worked and I had Civ to focus on. (The doc actually said playing this game kept my mind from going the way of the physical.) But I have played my last turn in the days before Christmas, and I really think not being able to play is worse than everything else.. I used to have a near photographic memory, but now, when I try to remember something it feels like the retrieval system is snarled. (The files are still there but their headers have been stripped away.) I have always been an optimist and I still keep pumping myself up in anticipation of what is behind the next turn in the road, but I'm also looking forward to looking up Ivor for a game--hopefully some Friday night. (Big Grin)

No matter what comes, I have had a great run (57 yrs) and I had the great good fortune at the end to stumble onto Civ2 and this collection of fine fellows to enjoy it with. It has been swell sharing the trail with you all. Don't fret over my situation; I'm in a good place deep inside--if one can distinguish between the crashed car and the driver. My one last wish is that at the end I have enough snap left so that I can watch as the transition happens.

I don't know what to say.

Our paths haven't crossed nearly as much as many of the PBEMers or strategy posters on these Civ II board sections, but I still feel from the few hundred posts of yours that I have read, and the few dozen which I have responded to, or to which you have responded- that you must definately, in real life, be a very great guy- just like Scouse Gits (2), and a lot of other posters here.

As I guess you've already seen with the posts above- you will be missed. And there will certainly be a nice, comfortable, and perpetual place in the hall for you- you will not be forgotten.

I am glad that you were able to find joy in a game and in this community and am inspired by your courage and acceptance in fighting and reconciling and taking pleasure in the joys and the good things in life.

Hopefully the afterlife is a lot like Civ I with it's 'Replay' option, and like Civ II with its endless replayability and happiness and joy.
