I think Gothmog's "Justinian the Great" is about the best scenario I've ever played. Jesus Munoz's scenarios should not be overlooked. His "Thirty Years War" is a classic, and ideal for PBEM. Going back a little farther, Harlan Thompson's "Lord of the Rings" was what really turned me on to scenario making - I personally prefer version 2.0 with sounds.

Otherwise, I see little to disagree with on Fairline's list. And I second Case's addition of "Cruel Sea".

          Good Question:

          1) Civfanatics (civfanatics.com/civ2/downloads/scenarios/fantasy) hosts version 2.0, but no sounds. This version is one of those rare scenarios designed for the almost forgotten "Conflicts in Civilization". It will work with "Fantastic Worlds", but not "vanilla"

          2) Apolyton (csc.apolyton.net) hosts version 3.0, but again, no sounds. Another CiC scenario.

          3) Spanish Civ Site (spanish.apolyton.net) also hosts version 3.0, no sounds.

          4) The Ultimate Civ2 Site Archives (apolyton.net/civ2/) hosts v3.0, and the sounds are included in the zip file. The only downside is you really have to root around to find this thing (it's on page 21).

For anyone who may be interested, I have versions 4.0 and 4.0 beta (both with sounds). These are the versions designed for "Fantastic Worlds", which means, among other things, more units and more events. The file dates are only two weeks apart, so I'm guessing that 4.0 contained some bugs that were fixed in the beta. If these versions don't exist anywhere else, I'll happily provide them to anyone who asks.

From what I understand of that Civ game of yours, it's all about launching one's own spaceship before the others do. So this is no big news after all: my father just beat you all to the stars once more. - Philippe Baise

Uh yes.....I suppose that wasn't intuitive!

Better it should be called V4.1 or V4.0a. One noteworthy difference between v3 and v4 is that Harlan didn't include the Isengard variant in v4. So if you want to play as Saruman, you'll have to stick with v3.

It sure will. I would also like to point out that Alejandro (academia) has made some fine Tolkien scenarios too, though not about the War of the Ring.

Anyways, I have versiobn 4.1 of the LOTR scen. I guess it can be founded in the bestonnet section of the spanish civ-site.

I'm curious, does it actually say "v4.1" in the readme file? I haven't seen versions higher than 3.0 posted anywhere, and mine are v4.0 (Note - the Spanish Civ site has v3.0, as noted in an earlier post)

I'm pretty sure it says 4.1. Unfortunatly I can't find out right now cause my own computer is broken. I will get back on this when it's fixed though.
