It started life as an American Civil War river gunboat I drew. It seems to have gained a couple of funnels.

I can't count the number of roles that little boat has filled Gareth, torpedo boat, coastal gunboat, river boat, so so many. I'm sure it will make a grand Chinese river boat as well, its proven very versatile .

Um, No. I was simply illustrating where Broken Erika's 'ironclad' originated.

Of course, and I fully agree that noting tops the original unit from your Civil War unitset. I'm curious, was there any one boat in particular that you modeled the Civil War gunboat after or was it a combination of several Civil War era gunboats?

Also Techumseh, how big a role if any will river warfare play in this scenario? Will boats that travel up and down the Chinese rivers be capable of naval warfare or will they be for scouting and transport alone?

River warfare will be included, with limitations. The Yangtze, the Yellow and the Pearl rivers are navigable. This is a stretch in the case of the Yellow, which has a huge silting problem. Rivers are separated from ocean so Japanese capital ships can't sail into the middle of China.

Other than sampans, boats can't be built. Instead, they are given by events when certain cities are captured. Junks, sampans and riverboats are strictly transports. Gunboats are the only combat vessel allowed on rivers. They can be acquired in the same way as other military hardware, by researching contracts.

Was just wondering how this one's progressing techumseh and if there was something I could perhaps contribute in the way of flags or such.

Progress is slow, but steady. I've finished the art for the icons/improvements for the WoW, and most of the special terrains (the camels are now 2 humped, Boco), and received the final exotic vehicles from Fairline (a Citroen-Kegress half track, a Japanese type 89 tank, and a Ford Trimotor transport plane). I imported Curt's new oriental city styles into the scenario - they are a big improvement.

I have to convert a number of units from the photo-reduction style to the hand drawn style for consistency. This may take a week or so.

Then I have to finish the events (another week or so) and test them. Then write the Describe text and do a Readme, and it's ready for serious playtesting, hopefully bofore the end of July.

I've got the flags all done, thanks for asking. Attached is the imp file for the "Northern Expedition" wonder:

Here's some units I've recently completed. They are: German Advisor, Tong Gangster, Spy, and Soviet Advisor. I have a few left to do, then on to finalizing the events.

Now if I can just get Allard to make his camels into dromedaries...

This is good to hear, Tech.

I've almost finished the units. Does anyone have an early Japanese cruiser, with one of those distinctive tall superstructures?

Here's another sampler of some of the recently completed units. They are: Japanese cavalry, Eastern Jewel (Japanese spy), Opium Merchant, and White Russian Cavalry.
