I think I am going to try to do MP in civ4. It sounds like they're actually giving the game some good features for once in MP. Since it's on gamespy though that is a major downside.

I don't think there is a game out there that doesn't allow you to connect to each other through IP. I can't wait to play this game there are so many features and teamplay is going to be awesome. Finally they took some features from age of empires. I think they should create a recorded game option.

I hope they don't screw up Civ 4... Because it will be a couple of years until the next try... One key is, I guess, a good implementation of MP... That prolonged Civ 2's life immensely even though SP still is alive and kicking...
The reason I never bought Civ 3 was the bad "reviews" it got here at Apolyton by hardcore civers...
Perhaps the problem is that our expectations are too high? I don't think any future game can create the same sense of wonder and addiction that Civ 2 did for me when I first discovered it in early 1997...

We just need a few fixes to lock down MP security and the abilty to plug in custom rules for each game as agreed by the players."Old age and skill will overcome youth and treachery. "

I agree... maybe if they make the source code available, somebody could take what is basically a solid game, and turn it into what most of us were looking for with Civ III and didn't get. One of the mod pacs could be used to update the graphics a tad (not that I really care about how it looks, but only how it plays) and fix some of the problems. I still love Civ II.
But who knows, maybe Civ IV will blow us away.Keep on Civin'
