I use flags of the world as my source. This is what it has for Würtemberg:

I guess by 1817 they'd combined with Baden? I'll change the flag on my units, thanks for the info.

I got the Baden flag here, as it looked more interesting than the Baden state flag. Could it be the Ducal standard?

as for the Württemberg garde du Corps, this is a complicated story. Württemberg has a Guard Cavalry Regiment of four squadrons. the first squadron being the Garde Jäger, the second being the Garde du Corps and the last two being Horse Grenadiers. all three types have unique parade uniforms, those of the Garde du Corps is the one you have depicted. however, as for war-time service, all squadrons were ordered to wear the uniform of the Horse Grenadiers (the uniform of the Guard Jäger remaining green however but this is only a minor detail). so the regiment would have a standardized appearance on the battlefield. but, and here's the next twist, the Guard Cavalry Regiment would only serve in war with the king of Württemberg and as we know he never took the field in person so this regiment, incl. the GdC never saw any actual combat.

i hope my description was useful for your understanding of the Württemberg Army. if you have more questions about organization and units please ask.
Ah, thanks for the explanation! I think I'll keep 'em though, for gameplay reasons..

and thanks for your efforts in making those wonderful units. sometimes however it is difficult getting heavy and light cavalry for each nations as often those small states were too poor to have a large and diverse army like the big players. btw only France had the categorioes of heavy, medium and light, most other countries only made a difference bewteen heavy and light cavalry.
My concern was to give each nation in PeG-Nap a light (hussar / light drgn / chevauleger etc), medium (dragoons) and heavy (cuirassier, elite cavalry) unit, so it is more a gameplay consideration than anything.

    Thanks for your explanations!

    • You know, often a recipie is as good as the ingredients that go into it so I thank you back.

      • With the flags I think it depends on what are you representing with the little german mini states. If they should be members of the Confederation of the Rhine (founded by Napoleon) then Tiemuzhen should be right with the flags.

Kingdom of Wurttemberg (founded 1806; former Duchy of Wurttemberg):

Grand Duchy of Baden (also founded 1806):

Unfortunatelly I don´t know how the flags looked like before Napoleon founded all states new.

honestly, i've never seen either one before. the FOTW link says it's some sort of "civil" flag, whatever that means. there are two possibilities. black-red is the flag of Württemberg and yellow-red was the flag of Mömpelgard (Montbéliard in France) which was another posession of the House Württemberg until the French Revolution. i heard both flags used to be combined at one time (black from W. and yellow from Mömpelgard). the other possibility, this is derived from the colours of the coat of arms which are black on yellow.

as for the Baden flag, i've even seen a version on FOTW which is essentially yellow-gold-yellow and is also used that way in Victoria (paradox game). as weird as it looks, i've never seen this one either and i'm not really sure how good a source FOTW afterall is. to be on the safe side, i wouldn't use either one.

you could still use the Horse Grenadiers or the Chevaulegers, and use the Horse Jäger as light cavalry. as for Württemberg cavalry:

it started the Napoleonic Wars with four regiments, two of CL and two of Horse Jäger. in 1809 the Dragoons were raised. in 1813 one regiment of CL and Jäger each were disbanded because they went over to the Coalition forces at Leipzig. in fact this was only on paper as both Regiemnts continued to be employed but were merely renumbered as new 4th and 5th Regiment (the CL indeed became Horse Jägers as well) and their Brigade General dismissed. in 1814 or 1815 major changes took place: a Regiment of Guard Uhlans (lancers) was raised but didn't participated in camapigns. the remaining Chevauleger Regiment was renamed as Cavalry Regiment (and received new heavy cavalry-style helmets). the Dragoon Regiment was converted to Horse Jägers (received Green trousers replacing the white ones).
the full setup of Württemberg cavalry was thus: one Guard Cavalry Regiment (of mixed squadrons as described above), one Guard Uhlan Regiment, one Cavalry Regiment of the line and four Regiments of Horse Jäger (therefore my emphasize on the Jäger ).

                  • I love these units GoD. I wish I had more time to dedicate to CivII scenario creation as these fine units deserve to be used in a scenario! Do you plan to use them in a project or are you just creating them for fun?
