I´ve found two interesting websites. Maybe someone knows them already.
One contains many historical flags from nearly every country of the world.

The chainmail and head/helmet are the work of Fairline, carefully applied to the highly edited and colorized "Spirit Warrior" from Masters of Magic Jr.

Credit also goes to Cyrion, for his comment to edit the shield border in my original attempt at making a mail-clad swordsman.

It's in the classic CIV2 style - Which I find is a type of unit I am finding more appreciation for as time goes on...!

Your comment still inspired me to tweak it to make it better, I think that deserves to be recognized.

The old version just didn't look right, even without the shield border.

Edit: By the way, how do I make the unit graphic display in my post? I'm not used to this, so I think I overlooked something.

Here's a Russian "Reitar" from what I presume is the 17th century

(I used this Rome: Total War unit as a reference. The site linked to has been a somewhat good reference in visual reference, unfortunately that site is almost entirely in Russian.

Well, here's a Russian "Foreign Regiment" musketeer.

I've been reading what I can on the Russian military, and I'm not quite sure if these are foreign mercenaries, native Russians organized and equipped in the "foreign" (i.e. Western) manner (like the Polish "Foreign Autoranment" eventually became), or both. Because if it's one of the latter two, and the regular infantry was modeled on the Western model (as, this article implies most regular infantry were under the "Foreign order" (Inozemniy prikaz)), then a lot of my headaches regarding Muscovite infantry in my Sobieski scenario will be cured.

Next stop: Muscovite dragoons (or maybe pikemen)...

My second conversion of the spirit warrior seems to be working much better than the first.
