I'll do a poll about whether we should use your new index as a new static start page, or if we should take the images and background and modify the wiki main page to use them in a similar arrangement.

The greater wiki site will use your colours and background in any case. The only sticking point would be background music.

Thanks for the hard work. Your stuff has a good flair.

I think the existing site should be left as is, as an archive. A few reviews can be transferred as can the tips if that's not too onerous - otherwise just a link will do. Otherwise, it's a brand new site. Content can be transferred regularly from the forums.

Okay. Reviews and tips belong in a Wiki -- doing HTML pages for each is a pain, and they would benefit from the cross-referencing.

If you'd like to do a traditional pages with graphics compilations, that may prove very useful. It may also require a lot of work.

Technically impossible, as the forum is entirely unrelated. Would require me to hose all of Apolyton.

I should have much respect for St. Leo's efforts in staying at the controls of the SL site, without reward or pay, but we should see a trial run of the wiki that does not endanger our community before we are forced into it at bayonet-point.

All the stuff that's on the site right now will remain there in exactly the same location.

A wiki can be locked down so that only a select few can edit and post. I'd just like to try an open model first.

Is it possible to integrate a wiki section within the overall framework of the SLeague site as envisaged by Techumseh?

Yeah. We can restrict the wiki to just the Tips, or Tips and Reviews, or to Tips and Reviews and Links, or to Tips and Reviews and Links and Files.

Or we can use it for the main page too.

As my ignorance knows no bounds on matters relating to website design, is there some advantage to using a Wiki for the entire site which I'm missing? Would this perhaps be the ease of setting the thing up and maintaining it which Leo has hinted at?

There's no file management rigmarole as overhead. It's easy to edit, it's easy to crosslink related documents, and it's easy to add new stuff.

I'll put up a proper proof of concept on my own server (where the wiki is locked down so that only I can post^-^).

Will this here forum be a linked part of the new place, or will the new
site/wiki be what you get when the CIV2 creation link on poly is clicked?

Looking forward to seeing whatever new system arises...

        Keep us informed, Leo!

I will get started on a page for the contest, and after that the graphics pages, organized similarly to the forum. I've already contacted Curt and Fairline for compilations of their work, and I'll add others later. If Typhoon could do the same and send it to me, I would be very appreciative.

Looking forward to seeing the new site, Leo. Thanks.

tech, I'm willing to help design any html webpage you want to make, but keeping it updated is probably not something I should commit too.

for the webpage you came up with, might it be a good idea to have the side menu text be clickable as a link too? not just the little icon next to it?

just a little editing I did, mainly the making of the side menu completely image and linked.

I also removed the sound file, I hate webpages with sound in them. (Does anyone remember Darth Veda's website on Tripod that had the Star Wars Imperial March in the background?)

We also shoudl chat about how you name the index file. SLindex isn't the standard. standards are good. when someone goes to apolyton.net they are actually going to apolyton.net/index.html any browser is going to look for the index.html page unless a page is specified. when it doesn't find it, you're going to get an error.

Another thing is your file pathway, as a rule it isn't a good idea to have a file pathway that has a space in it. Scenario League/SLindex.html may work on most servers, but it would be much better to instead do Scenario_League/index.html or ScenarioLeague/index.html

You have made peace with the evil Wheredehekowi tribe-we demand you tell us if they are a tribe that is playing this scenario.

Thanks for that, H Tower. Can you restore the color to the side menu text?

Is there a better way to handle sound, aside from eliminating it altogether? Can we supply a button to turn it off? Also, I have a number of (very good) 30 second clips from various soundtracks. I'd love to know if they can be played randomly or in sequece - unless they're turned off, of course.

                            A comment . . . . .

I like Brian's graphics and layout. It looks good. Looking forward to seeing the new site.

And it has nothing whatever to do with the fact that I'm in desperate need of new graphics, sound, and scenarios files.
