  • Hm, i am sorry to say that i tried to play freeciv, but it looked worse than civ2
And with civ2 TOT there it lagging a bit behind probably.
But i could be wrong. Can you post a link to some page that has all the cool graphics one can use for freeciv v.2?

right now we are just getting the basic mod done, fancy stuff comes later,
I am not delusional! Now if you'll excuse me, i'm gonna go dance with the purple wombat who's playing show-tunes in my coffee cup!
Rules are like Egg's. They're fun when thrown out the window!
Difference is irrelevant when dosage is higher than recommended!

I am trying to improve Freeciv's barbarians, and one thing that struck me is that Genghis Khan's terrible mounted archers are missing. Little incarnates the very concept of barbarians more than the mounted hordes of the Khans, but we have nothing even remotely like it.

Do anyone have something that could be used?
These are the closest things I had that seemed to match your description:
        My Cepha scenario
        The Solar Revolution
Soon-to-be-updated collection of Civ2 artists' signatures. If you know one that's not listed, feel free to drop me a PM.

Well, what version did you try?

The gfx mentioned in this thread for instance is only in CVS, so you will need to compile it yourself or wait until Freeciv 2.1 is released.
We are the apt, you will be packaged.

Well, Freeciv can surpass ToT when it comes to graphics, thanks to PNG it can do 24bit + transparency levels. One could even convert ToT graphics to FC quite easily but for now we first want to get a good set of graphics as a starting point.

Once that is done we'll start to focus on scenarios.

                      • that pic looks exceptional!
unfortunately my version (2.0.4) has very ugly graphics :/

can you post the edited files, or send them to me?

the only thing i dont like are the railroads

and i agree that the ultra pixel-perfect graphics of the modern cities are intimidating, but i also like your cities: they are very constistent and full of character

i may convert some of my civ3 cities, and rework them since civ3 uses awfull palletes

                        • Unfortunately the colours got ruined when i tried to just copy paste my civ3 work on your file (roman cities, which i assume has the freeciv palette?) so i altered the city a bit. I only had to make it marginally smaller.

This is one of my best works for civ3, but i am not sure if my style is very compatible with yours or smiley's
I could make buildings smaller though, infact i wanted to for civ3, but the lobby there asked for larger buildings

The files are in cvs. You can browse them here:

You can't use the tileset with 2.0.x though, since it depends on features only present on the cvs head version.

It would be more usefull if you tell us why you don't like the railroads, and suggestions on how they can be improved

                              • hi Yog-Sothoth.

First of all Cthulhu told me to say that i dont like them

but apart from that, i think that they would fit more if they were done in the same angle as the cities are, since now they look flat.

and where can i dl the current version? (and which version is that?)
