  • Unofficial patch for Harlan Thompson's LOTR scenario

As many of you may know, Harlan Thompson’s LOTR scenario is one of the best LOTR scenarios that combine empire building and Tolkien's epic trilogy. Unfortunately the graphics used for this scenario are pretty bad and there’s no sound for the scenario so I took on the effort of updating the graphics, adding sound, adding specialized units, and fixing some stats. I tweaked with so many things I can’t remember what I edited and what I kept so I just took all of the contents and added to this attachment. Enjoy.

Click here to download the sound files.

Edit: \/ \/ Made a mistake with the attachment. Download from the link posted in my the 2nd post.

    Thanks for the effort.

However, I noticed that the zip contains the OLD units

    I haven't checked anything else...

Why is it a patch for version 2 when the latest version is 4.1?

(Oh, and could you please use Zip files, not RAR?)

Where can we download verison 4.1?

The highest version I have seen is v 3.0...

I actually prefer using RAR - it can open any file.... and I find it easier to work with...

          Cheers!

I guess that's because I know of only one site with the latest version...

Well, there's a difference between a RAR file and the program you open/save it with (WinRAR presumably). WinRAR can also open and save Zip files.

If you save as a Zip you can still use WinRAR, while those not using it (like me) can also open your files.

              heheh

Many thanks - it was hiding in plain sight

Everyone certainly has their preferences, but I have found WinRAR to be sooo easy to work with. Click on the file once, and the entire archive to available for inspection.

Of the two, WinRAR will compress files a bit more than Zip.

If you have some BIG files to compress, I would highly recommend WinACE:

                Mercator:

Perhaps I am blind, but I cannot find a single scenario on your website

I had trouble too, Leonidas. You have to click on "Legacy," the old site. Then click on "other files" in the upper left corner, then ficitional scenarios, and there it is...

Well... that was a waste of time. I just assumed that 2.0 was the last version. I originally got it off civilization fanatics.

Should I even bother to zip it anymore seeing as there is a 4.1?

I wouldn't call it a complete waste. The gfx upgrade alone is worth something. Plus, I'll bet tweaking v4.1 won't have as steep of a learning curve as v2.

Anyone know what changes Harlan made in his upgrades?

I have versions 2, 3 and 4, including Harlan's original sounds from v. 3. Post your email and I'll send them along.

                            It's worth it.

Just compare what you have done with v4.1. Then zip up all the NEW changes with the NEW gfx and post again.

Yeah... I've been looking over 4.1 and it wouldn't be to hard to shift the changes I made from the 2.0 version. I'll give it a shot.
