Hi Everyone, I'm new to this board, but not new to the civ series. I've been a long time Civ2 fan; my question is it possible to add more than one UNITS file to the game?

Yes, it is. As we have seen in games such as red Front multiple units files have been used. This is accomplished by using a BAT file to switch out the files at a certain point in the game. The game must be saved and then reloaded after the switch has been made.
... But those won't be used simultaneously. That isn't possible.
The only thing that's possible, as Harry described, is changing files during a game, which will obviously affect the entire game, changing the graphics of the existing units, not adding new ones.
If the changes aren't only graphical (e.g. winter/summer graphics), but also involve rules changes (e.g. entirely new units), you'd have to make sure that the units that are being replaced aren't being used in the game anymore.
You wouldn't want some puny Warrior to suddenly turn into an all-powerful Hero, or the other way around. Unless that was intentional and not accidental.

Hmmm, you just gave me an idea
I am not delusional! Now if you'll excuse me, i'm gonna go dance with the purple wombat who's playing show-tunes in my coffee cup!
Rules are like Egg's. They're fun when thrown out the window!
Difference is irrelevant when dosage is higher than recommended!
