Yeah, yeah: Our cup of tea mean't so much that you lot in Canada built most of the Lancasters but also provided the UK with many of the Convoy escorts, and incredibly had the 3rd largest Navy after the US and UK in 1945 in the world.

If you ever read the Asterix book by the cruel Belgium man that relates how the Romans defeated Britain, it's cruel but true- I can't function without my cup of tea when I wake, This is understood by all of my age. No Tea, no war, we must have at least one cuppa.

    Toby ;-)

Ps, Asterix, the comic hardback was actually spot-on in his observation of the British, along with all other national stereo-typing in Europe in 1920-30. Comedic observer? He might be the closest observer we had to compare with the Marx Brothers in North America, done with humour as well in Belgie?

My grandfather worked in a factory during ww2 building 5in guns for corevettes and destroyers,
I am not delusional! Now if you'll excuse me, i'm gonna go dance with the purple wombat who's playing show-tunes in my coffee cup!
Rules are like Egg's. They're fun when thrown out the window!
Difference is irrelevant when dosage is higher than recommended!

In the interest of fairness, I think I should point out that the French, German, Italian and Japanese navies had largely been sunk by the end of the war. But hey, we did have a lot of destroyers and corvettes.

          Blimey,

Pleased to see the vital role Canada played in WWII being mentioned here by you lot- The UK would have sunk before Japan and then Germany finally declared war on the US. Britain was alone and pitted against the entire production of Germany, France, Denmark, Norway, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Albania, Italy, etc etc.

The Canadian lifeline kept us going for food, then Aircraft and ships, once both Hitler AND the Japanese declared war upon the US, their fate was sealed as they couldn't duck us stupid Europeans any longer, and they were forced to join the Canadians in helping Europe.

WWI was the last European War in which idiot governments forced Europeans to fight each other, WWII regarding Jewish people showed just how far Governments could sanction slaughter, Modern Islam seems similar to me when I see suicide nutters.

I do see a connection between Canada helping the UK when most in need (flag-changing post war). Each class will tell it's own history of WW2, but most history books are written by middle or upper-class people, in 20 years time it wont be so I hope.

One thing Europeans all have in common even before the Mayfower was having an escape from religion led to hundreds of thousands of people that didn't agree with that fact of being killed.

If people were left alone with their lives, the European population size would be huge, funnily, it in't.

In North America, the Yanks are now forgetting the very reason the founding fathers exist (Don't mix government and religion), one is spiritual, the other a nuisance, but needed in order to hold a nation together.

I've rambled on this, but the Yanks are in danger of ignoring the basic reason the founding fathers existed to make the US in the first place.
