    Greetings

I've downloaded a scenario wich contained the "EVENTS.txt" file, but I have no idea how to make the events work in the game. Without the events working the scenario looses alot of it's functions, and it's really frustrating. Can someone explain the basics of how to make the events work? Do I need some kind of external program to run the scenarios completly? Right now I'm just copying the files into the Civ2 directory, replacing the original files such as the rules.

    cheers!

    Greetings back atcha,

What is the scenario? Does it have any instructions in a readme?

Usually you unzip the files into their own subdirectory off of the Civ2 directory that you're using. Then in ToT, you simply choose "Begin a Scenario" from the second menu after startup and go to the subdirectory with your scenario. It should have a .SCN file that you open. IIRC, MGE and FW have similar setups.

If you have a version of Civ2 that allows events (CiC, FW, MGE, UC2 collection, etc) your scenarios should be unzipped into their own folder in a Civ2 subdirectory called 'scenarios'.
Unless you have Civ2: ToT events won't work if you put them in the main directory.

Thank you for answering. But I still need to replace the rules.txt in the main directory with the Rules.txt that came with the Scenario.zip right? I guess I won't replace itself ^^ I don't really know what version of Civ2 I am using atm, It is the version that came along with Sold Out edition, and there are no folder called "scenarios" in the directory. Will it do if I make my own?

Go to the Game menu (when you're playing a game) and go to the Game Options. The civ2 version is the title of the pop-up.

More than likely you have the original Civ2 which doesn't support events at all.

But wait a minute, to play a scenario you have to choose "Begin a scenario", as Boco said, and pick a .scn file. Try starting one such scenario first. You'll most likely get an error message...

Not only does the original Civ2 not support events, it also can't run scenarios made for later versions of civ2 (which includes any scenario with events)...

Replacing files in the main directory will be pretty pointless then anyway, because all you'll get is the standard civ2 game with different rules and graphics. Well, those things exist too, but they're called modpacks, and those don't have events anyway.

You can find a number of older scenarios for Civ FW (v2.7.8l). Most current scenarios require Civ2 Multiplayer Gold (v5.2.5f). If you have Civ2 Test of Time (which sounds unlikely), you should patch it to v1.1. If you find that you have a version of Civ2 that supports scenarios, then the following may help. If not, Civ2 MGE and ToT can be purchased cheaply. IIRC, Amazon.UK sells Test of Time.

No, Civ2 will first check the directory containing the .SCN file for rules.txt and other scenario files. Only if a text or image file can't be found in the scenario directory will Civ2 will search for the file in the main EXE directory (ToT has a slightly different scheme).

Absolutely. Most of us do just that to organize our collections.

I've done some checking, atm I got Civ 2 version 2.42
wich came along the Ultimate edition. But even with such I can still run the scenario, wich of course (as you said before) only results in the map settings and difrent untis and rules. So in short you say that I need another version (like MGE or ToT) to run the Scenario WITH the events? Do I get things right now? =)
