@ Curt's stuff. OMG! I burst out laughing when I saw Curt's collection of buildings. It's great stuff, of course, but I'd never pictured him meticulously piecing together cities out of separate structures. Like little toy blocks.

Still, it's beautiful stuff, Curt. Current state-of-the-art.

Here's one of my unit editing pads that i fill up on a regular basis and use as a source for other units i edit

It has a bunch of unfinish editing attempts and experiments.

I also have something to share. I've thought of this while I was working on improving the terrain for Freeciv 2.0.

I don´t know if this technique is used already but I´ve made a multi-layered terrainsheet. All sorts of terrain now get their own layer (trees, rivers, mountains etc...). This way I can easily change the terrain by simply (de)activating that particular layer.
Skeptics should forego any thought of convincing the unconvinced that we hold the torch of truth illuminating the darkness. A more modest, realistic, and achievable goal is to encourage the idea that one may be mistaken. Doubt is humbling and constructive; it leads to rational thought in weighing alternatives and fully reexamining options, and it opens unlimited vistas.

Eh, not really. A scratchpad can show a progression when building a unit, terrain, cities, whatever. I think Catfish's thread was to show a technique exclusively, not just a representation of a certain unit being built. Fairline's Soviet tank "How to" could even be a scratchpad, but then again he was showing off a technique. I think you're fine.
They both show method. This is in fact precisely the sort of thing that would be suitable for a workshop. The Graphics Workshop thread came about as a result of a discussion between Fairline, Curt, William Keenan and me, the aim being to provide a source of information for graphics creators, whether it be tutorials, FAQs, tips, links, etc. It's pretty general. I'd actually consider merging this thread into that one.

Following a similar principle, you can use multiple layers to apply textures to terrain – in much the same way as I do for units. I've attached a file for one of Microprose's hill sets. It's saved in PSP's (8.10) proprietary format. Select or deselect layers and/or change their properties (blend mode and opacity) to create different effects. Add more layers if desired. Copy merged when you're done.

Download (111 kb) Edit: In future, I'll learn to crop my layers. A slightly smaller version.
