  • Colonialism: The Age of Discovery

The last couple of weeks I've been working on a scen I havn't named yet. Very soon to be released. This is the best name I have yet. Everyone is free to come with suggestions and comments in general.

It's a scenario from the 1500s and to the 18th century. Giga map. The goal is to colonise the world.

Can people help me come with sigs for the units without?

This looks interesting, Eivind. Could you give us some more information on the game principles?

      Very nice units!

Of course, that's no surprise when you look at the signatures on them

Please tell us more: which civs are in, which are playable?

There are 5 playable civs. Portugese, Spanish, French, English and Dutch. The European civ and the Ottomans round up the last two. Heathens are barbarian. Since it begins somewere around 1500 and ends around 1700-1800 I had to pretend the Dutch revolution happened earlier than 1568 . The Spanish and the Portugese have the upper hand right off the bat, with naval techs that enables them to travel across oceans.

It sounds a lot like Kobayashi's TRON...

Yes, it does, only it doesn't The only common thing this will have with TRON is the time period and the fact that it is world map. But TRON has been a great inspiration.

I'll be looking forward to this one.

We can never have too many colonization scenarios.

                      Very nice, indeed.
About the sigs, most ships are by BeBro (sig= BB) I think, quite positively, but deffinitely not the fourth. I am not certain about the third and the last one either, could be mods. The engineer & priest are Erwan's, the diplomat is an ebit by Arne. Some of the ships look like his (Arne's) too (nos 12 &15). Sadly, I don't think they used any sigs in the firstplace. Isn't that storm by Alex the magnificent?
                      Hope I helped, good luck.

                          Indeed it helped! Thanks!

The scenario is 90% done. Only unit placement and various minor tweaks left. Expect a beta within a couple of days.

Here's all I want to show for now. The Portugese map.

I just had a look at the map. If it's the 16th century, why don't the Habsburgs have control of their German/Austrian possessions and the kingdom of Naples? If it is the 15th century, what are they doing in Flanders? I am just a grumbling history geek, I know, but what year is it, exactly?
The year of the frog, typical Chinese answer.
No wait, that's 3 centuries later, methinks.

There is no Habsburg civ. The grey cities you see are the European civ, consisting of the German principalities, Scandinavia, Venice, Poland, Russia, Teutons, Austria, Hungary etc. All European countries besides Portugal, Spain, France, England, the United Provinces and Ottoman Turkey. As there are only room for 7 civs, compromises like this has to be done

The exact starting year is not yet decided. I'm open for any kind of suggestions.
