  • Ghost City!!!

In the latest scenario project, I've encountered something odd. When the new scen is loaded in CivCity, it shows a city (in this case "Cardiff" ) which is NOT TO BE FOUND ANYWHERE ON THE ACTUAL MAP?!?!

I've checked the map over and over. It's not there.

    But CivCity says it is.

Won't affect the scenario, the way this new one is set up, but it's a mystery.

I'd be very interested in seeing the save.

My guess is that somehow the Cardiff city coordinates in the save have been corrupted so that one is an odd number and the other even. To appear on the game map, both coords have to be odd or both have to be even.

Alternately, I suppose one or both coords could be outside the map area.

    Edit:
If you want it fixed, please attach a copy of the save. It should take only a minute or two to get rid of the city.

Even if the coordinates are odd/even, you would still be able to see the city name on the map. It should also still show up in the city advisor list, regardless of the coordinates.

You should be able to locate the city through its city screen there.

        Right on! My error.

I just tested what happens when a coordinate is well outside the game map. There is no city name on the map and the resource window in the city screen shows the usual pattern of squares except that they are all black.

If the city location is just outside the map, some of the resource squares are normal and some are black.

I've often experienced that cities still appear on the list in CivCity, if they have been deleted while building the scenario, with the shift+crtl+d shortcut. Maybe this is related. Anyone who knows why?

Yep, that's what happened here. The Celts placed a city before I eliminated it, and that was before my first "save as scenario." You've described the situation I've encountered.

And thanks, Agricola, but if it's not really there . . . no problem.
