Everytime I go into Civ2 MapEditor I get an error. I starts up fine but once I choose the map size it says: "This program preformed an illegal operation and has to be shut down". The details: (If it actually makes sense to you)

Please help I want to make scenarios! I have the original (not burnt!) Civilization Multiplayer Gold Edition.

I have no idea what could be the problem, I'm afraid (I don't know if that gibberish makes sense to anyone). But I may have a solution. You could try using my "Test of Time Map Editor", available here: http://www.civgaming.net/mercator/mapedit
It's almost exactly the same as your map editor, but I've heard it helped people before. I adjusted it to work with "Civ2: Test of Time", but it still works just fine with MGE as well.

Depending on whether that ToT map editor works may also give a hint as to what is the problem with your original map editor:
If the ToT map editor doesn't work either, the problem must be with one of the other files, or maybe it's a Windows thing. Do you have Windows XP? Perhaps running in compatibility mode solves it.
If the ToT map editor does work, your map editor might be corrupt in some way. Perhaps a civ2 re-install would fix it.

      Ok thanks I'll try that.

EDIT: Thanks it works now. I have another question. In the Map Editor you can edit and create maps. How do I make scenarios with custom units, civs and rules?

You do have MGE, don't you?

It's all covered quite comprehensively in the manual, but if you have any further questions then ask in the Scenario Creation forum.

This error looks a bit familiar to me
"An archaeologist is the best husband a women can have; the older she gets, the more interested he is in her." - Agatha Christie
"Non mortem timemus, sed cogitationem mortis." - Seneca
