      • Well my badminton club's closed for the evening because someone with more money than us wanted to use the hall so I should get a few turns in. I'm nto sure of the state of the game at the moment, but I had a look at the rules on the first page of the thread and will follow them with care.

          • 1020 - Washington falls. Only three more Japanese cities left, and New York has no defenders after the trusty crooks smashed their phalanx.
Our dip destroys the barracks in Athens, but not the walls. I move crooks into position around Thebes, the legions can't touch us aboard boats!

1040 - New York falls for 64g. Two cities left... Now if only I knew where they were.

1060 - Thebes brings 150g for the capture of the barb leader.

1080 - Athens falls. Hladir falls. duke's turn comes to an abrupt end when the duchess wants to "talk". And presumably, me to pay attention too. Damn!

Fortunately the "talk" wasn't a "talk" after all, she just wanted to chat.
But that still only means 4 turns were played. However, 4 capitals fell (all right, one was held by the barbs and I'd like to thank my trusty caravels for beating 2 legions outside the newly-captured city) and the Japanese have only 2 cities left! I discovered one of them, and since the other is Kiev then that will be in the area too. Rar anyone?

I have the save - any special rules I should bear in mind?

                Stu,

Here is the kickoff post. We will not want to do much now in the way of further research as that is the ONLY way we can lose this. Restarts being on means we can not get a clear win until 1500ad, when that goes away. I suggest not killing every last city of any AI, but leaving one zoo for each. No sense making this any harder by having to search the world for any restarts. This one will be a ROMP for a bit longer; then, it will become a time-siege.

                Great to see you again!!

                      • Romp & Stomp

                        Romp - 10 turns

After the premature abdication of Good King Rabbit a nationwide hunt for a suitable successor is launched. Although he seems to lack a pair of incisors it is finally determined that King Rodent the Rabid should succeed to the throne.
The bad guys have 22 cities - most of which need locating. Let's see what our temporary friends have to say for themselves...

1080 (0) - Gift a couple of techs to Russia in exchange for 250g & Maps - this also exposes all the Japanese cities. Similarly two techs pursuade the Egyptians to give us 50g & Maps. It costs three techs to get Maps from the Chinese. Abandon Science - sliders to 7.3.0 - set many cities ready for Celebration. Deliver Cheops caravan to Slim Buttes (16g) but 3t ongoing. Rush outstanding white goods. Here goes nothing ...

1100 (1) - Many cities celebrate. Deliveries to SB 30, 27, 36, 30 & 22 all giving nice ongoing trade arrows. 150g tribute and war with china . Ghent discovered.

1120 (2) - Kagoshima falls. 50g tribute and war with Russia. Minsk falls. Rush the odd Courthouse.

1140 (3) - Smolensk destroyed. Skara destroyed. Delphi falls. 50g tribute.

                        1160 (4) - not much

                        1180 (5) - another Courthouse

1200 (6) - Pharsalos destroyed. Moscow & Russia destroyed. Celts spawn @ (22,78). Alexandria falls we take Banking. Memphis falls we take Medicine. The missing vikings have now been located - so virtually all targets are in sight.

I pass the conch after a thoroughly enjoyable Romp.

                        Good stomping, Stu

                        • What a rabid romp you had!!

I can't look this over until tomorrow but it looks like you wasted all the Russ cities. Is this true?? Restarts being on, this may not have been the best thing. Hopefully we can find the white civ (on this huge map) sometime in the next 15 turns so we can wrap up all the civs at once as 1500 rolls around. Otherwise, it won't be such an Early Conquest after all.

                          Maybe I misinterpret your log.

Looks like you read correctly about the Russians BM, but at least he found the Celts for you

I am of mixed mind on the AI Zoo when restarts are on, I like the idea of destroying as many civs as possible, especially in an Romp game, should make the victory all that more sweet, No?

Looks like this one is a fogone conclusion as well, just a matter of timing it for 1500 AD I suppose.

                            • Thanks for pointing that out, Sparrowhawk. I've never seen a respawn show itself like that before. Always learning new things about this game. And reading comprehension is a good thing too!!

There is a good reason I need to retire early tonight.

                              • Monk - that's what Marco is for!! I took Moscow and immediately contacted the Celts before all the bad tales about me had spread. Swapped maps et voila

                                Cheers, Stu
