I never had any problems with 2.78. In fact it's less buggy than MGE, that's why I use it. I HAVE MGE.

Are u sure it's not a difference in the UK version?

I can certainly confirm that I have experienced bugs when playing "ordinary civ" (ie not scenarios) with FW. These centre around the diplomatic contact. Under certain circumstances it is not possible to start a diplomatic dialogue using the foreign advisor screen. It is also sometimes not possible to use a diplomat to bribe an enemy city - not just capitals.

I was unable to complete the first early landing game which I started in FW because of these bugs. They were cured when I played the game again using 2.42.

Again I ask: are you sure it's not a problem in the UK/European version? I've played a lot of civ @ 2.78, and never encountered those problems.

          Anyone stateside have these bugs?

Every list of patches I have seen says that 2.42 is the final patch for Civ2 and that 2.78 is for a different game. I think there may have been a European version of MP, but the differences had to do with language choices, not the basic game. Just the fact that Theben can not load saves for a 2.42 game with his 2.78 patched version indicates that 2.78 is not for Civ2.

To answer your question directly Theben - No! -- However, unlike MGE which exists in the UK as the UCC and which are not quite the same - there is no evidence to suggest that there is such a thing as a UK variant of 2.42 or 2.78

Yep. That's what I tried to imply. The patches are universal, not region or country specific.

If Theben were to get the 2.42 patch he could play in one of the SXN games. I'm sure he would receive a warm welcome.

2.42 isn't compatible b/c of changes in the labels and rules.txt.

I've modded my civ game and it has too many units for 2.42. I'll stick with 2.78, thanks.

Which adds to the conviction that 2.78 applies to a different game, don't you think??

                      It's still civ2 though.

One could still add 2.4.2 (oldciv or classic civ) in a different directory. I would think that there is enough space on most hard drives nowadays to fully enjoy Civ II.

I have loaded my game with 2.42 and the percentage is correct now.

                            Many thanks !

Do you know if the HoF is still accepting submissions ?

I don't know I'm afraid, but there are loads of officials here with reponsibility for different things, so I'm sire that one will be able to update the HoF.
If it's worthy of a HoF placing, well done!

Well I guess things are slowing down -- SG [1] is finally getting around to commenting on tag lines.

Hmmm -- maybe we need a speed Sxn game? What's the fastest that one has been completed?
