  • Civ2 Demo Game #4 Needs a Map

Our Civ2 Demo Game Group is seeking a game map. It should be a easy one to make. Normal large map, normal terrains at expected places this time. The difference is that we want to start of a 5 tile island with no land closer than 7 tiles and some point exactly that. The rest of the world can be a bit further away. I don’t mean we want to be at the exact center of a pond 7 tiles radius. The island we are on should have fair but not poor or great resources. The land of the island should have some grass, some plain, some hill. The sea in reach should have a whale. We nothing to work with.

The settings should be average, barbs active, 7 total civs, not bloodlust.

Our game is to start from one island location, live with 1 city until about 1040 AD, not use Diplomats or Ironclads, and allow ourselves bloodlust or space landing.

I think the map we want would be easy to make. Use island or continent, set an island of 5 tiles in a space irregularly surrounded by ocean and set us on the island with the other civs any way you choose.

I could do that myself, but I want to play in the game.

Can someone do this to help us out?

Thank you so much for the map. I'm sure it will be a good one. I hadn't expected a response so quickly!

SG: the east and west directions on that map are only 5 tiles to land. Knock out the one tile island to the east and the promontory to the WNW.

Elephant, can you PM SG in future, because some of us want to play the game, and little things like that might act as a (not very effective, admittedly) spoiler.

OK - will fix asap - I just lucked onto this map - there was hardly any changes (other than somewhat reducing the size of the target island) to make - it virtually fitted the required description as was so I must admit that I kept my mapediting activities to an absolute minimum...

Expect better try by this evening..

I think that this has got rid of any undesirable features ...

Sorry, DoY, but I thought telling him what to get rid of would be OK. Now you just know which way NOT to go...

I almost hate to mention it, but the game starts us off with 12 techs! I didn't even open the first map, so I didn't realize that. Can you eliminate the extra ones (other than Irrigation, Mining, and Roads)?

Also, could you name our civ Apolytonia and the leader Apolytonus?

                  Thanks...

                    Well - yes.
As has recently been discovered, truly dirtball starts can achieve greater than 8 techs at kick off ...
Restart a few times and each one will be (slightly) different in terms of starting techs ... this is a map not a save game so you get to found your own city and call it whatever you like.
If the extra techs from the start are totally unacceptable to you - enter cheat mode and kill them - and then either continue (with the cheat flag on - or resave as a scenario - with an open tech tree - I know of no other solutions...
                    Cheers, Stu

Such a small starting island, even with a special offshore, I doubt you will get less than 4-5 starting techs after a pile of restarts. You can rename your civ by changing RULES.TXT to rename the Carths. You can choose your own Ruler name during setup.
