The rise of the Roman Empire.

It was many moons ago that the two bands of Roman nomads met on the banks of the river Tiber.

The two tribes led by the Famous warriors Remus and Romulus decided to combine their efforts and make their permanant homes on the two banks of the river.

After an initial powerstrugle in witch Remus was killed by Romulan forces Romulus took power and named their city after himself: Rome.
Many Remus supporters fled the city to the north where they found another river they named the Remu to remember their slain leader.

Bands of scouts were send out of Rome and when they came to the new city that was called Pisae by the inhabitants an accord was struck in witch the Pisaeans came under the protection of Rome but had full rights to handle their internal affairs.

When our exploring warriors went further north they discovered that what was later called Roma major was in fact completely surrounded by mountains. To the west they met the Friendly Gaul people with whom we signed an agreement of eternal peace and exchanged knowledge. They also met the Spanish who sounded friendly so peace was made.
It was not untill later the Roman people discovered the Spanish people could in fact not be trusted.

In the east our explorers met the Greeks, those friendly people who we have much in common with asked to work together in the fields of Science and mutual protection.

Later we also met our friends the Babylonians and Egyptians and what later became our second allies the Chartagians.

As the years went past the Roman Kingdom grew and soon the people were crying out for more lands to settle. An expedition was send out west of Rome and our brave sailors discovered the islands of Corsicae and Sardiniae. Having sailed around these islands and seeing they had not yet been colonised the Roman people claimed these islands as their own.
The city of Sardiniae was build with plans for a second city north.

              Revolution!!!

It was in the year 950 that the citizens of the Roman Empire were fed up with the lifestyle of their king Romulus XXIIX while they were working all day on the lands for little or no compensation then the shirts on their backs and just enough food so they didnt starve.

In the years that followed a popular uprising gained momentum and in 925 the Roman Freedom Fighters finaly reached Rome and the Roman Monarchy fell after 1525 years.

The well renowned schollar Hadrianus was elected Consul in what was to be known as the Republic of Rome.

                The great library of Pisae.

In the years after the revolution the people set out to build a wonder the world has never seen. As Literacy was on the rise the Romans thought it good to have a place for the extraordenary schollers to meet and exchange ideas.

For sentimental reasons this 'Great Library' was buils in Pisae in the year 900. From all over the world persecuted schollars fled to this haven of tranquility and learning, brining with them valluable knowledge.

It wasn't untill the year 800 that the people of Pisae discovered the construction of the Great Library was done by far less educated people then the ones currently studying there.

The tower where the Library was located slowly tilted to one side and Rome's greatest schollars were called in to correct this problem. They found they could in fact stop the increased tilting by removing all boooks to the high side of the tower but knew they could never bring it back to its original state......

                  The treaty of Bern.

After long negotiations between Gaul and Roman reprisentitives in the city of Bern the two great nations decided on a permanent border.

Gifts of valluable technology were handed to our Gaul friends and the lines were drawn on the map.

We vow to respect our borders for all eternity and to stop any advancing army's comming overland from the east before they can reach the Gaulic homeland.

We hope this will be the start for a long and fruitfull coöperation between the Gaulic and Roman people

Border as proclaimed in the treaty of Bern:

                    Spanish kidnap Roman scholar!!!

An elite force of Spanish troops, disguised as diplomats kidnapped the renowned Roman scholar Maximus Pompeius from his residence in Remonium.

Inteligence reports state that he was taken back to Spain and tortured for days untill he finaly broke down and explained to the Spanish thugs the secret of warrior code. After they got all information out of the brave man they reportedly fed him to the crocodiles.

The Roman empire has strongly condemed this brutal act of war and demanded reperations in the form of one caravan with tradegoods to be handed over to the familymembers of the slain schollar.

But did the Spanish even respond to our words? Hell no, even while the other nations of the world urged the Spanish to come to the negotiating table there was nothing but utter silence and contempt from Spain.

As we are a peaceloving nation we have decided not to retaliate by military means but instead proclaim a full boycot of the Spanish witch encompasses the following measures:

1, There will be no trade of any form between the Roman and Spanish.

2, All Roman coastal waters will be off-limits to Spanish vessels. Orders have been send out to sink any Spanish ship that attempts to sail into Roman waters.

3, Spanish units crossing over the alps into Roman teritory will be considdered hostile and dealt with in an apropiate manner

We call on all civilised nations of the world to join us in this boycot untill reperations are paid.

                      The Carthaginian Civilisation

Hannibal built his first humble city on the Northern African shores and pondered the fate of his peoples. He sent tribes West and then South East, deciding that the desert interior would force settlement along the coast.

A warrior group made for the East where there was rumour of a great Egyptian civilisation. Contact was made and peaceful relations established. Technology trading and map sharing ensured and gradually an alliance was forged.

However, Hannibal feared sea-raiders from the North and compromised on settlement sites along the northern coastline. Pushing further westward to known river systems his fears were realised. Firstly contact was made with Zylka of the Spanish who offered strange combinations of deals - not clearly communicated. None the less an alliance was brokered but Hannibal was uneasy about it.

The first Cart ship sailed North and found, not Spanish, but Romans who were a stable and reliable friend but although an alliance was offered by the Romans none was agreed at this stage. The existing alliances with the Spanish and Egyptians would need reviewing first for it was policy for only two other civilisations to be allies. THEN, out of the blue the Spanish cancelled their alliance, saying that they thought we wanted our alliance to be covert and secret. It was realised by our diplomats that the Spanish had made a diplomatic bungle and probably had meant to cancel their formal alliance with another tribe, much further North! The Spanish retorted that the Carts could re-establish the alliance if we wished but we took this opportunity to create a much more worthwhile and friendly alliance with the Romans.

As previously stated a new Cart city was established on the first river system in NW Africa but the second had foreign Spanish colonisers....

see map (more details to be revealed later by Cart historians)

Your Carthaginian allies fully support these messures. We will assist in upholding the safety of the seas and likewise ban all trade from Spain. A map is being drafted for Roman consideration. Any Spanish vessel found on the wrong side of the demarcation line will be sunk.

DRAFT proposal to Rome 575 B.C.

Opinion is sought from all nations but consider this. The only acts of war perpetrated in our peaceful world is by the Spanish (possibly supported in secret by their running dogs)

                          * The Spanish have stolen technolgy

                          * The Spanish have colonised the lands of their allies (at the time)

It is important the world act now and stand as one before this tyrant creates a war machine or plunders from us all.

                            The Rise of the Babylonians

I can take little credit for the words that follow. They are the culmination of the life's work of a thousand writers and warriors, poets and explorers. Some, as you shall see, are more wordsmith than others. I am merely an editor, a fortunate old man who has been lucky enough to serve as ambassador to those two civilizations which rival my own in scope and splendor, France and Greece.

Ironically, these sketches are being compiled from the hallowed halls of the Great Library in Pisae. I count myself lucky to be allowed here during my summer holiday, to be tending to the books of the greatest library ever conceived. Other civilizations beware: knowledge is power, and while many cultures are respresented among the staff here, it is Rome that is deriving many of the benefits! (Curiously, I have not seen the Spanish delegates around in several days. Have they been taken ill?)

What follows is a compliation of essays, notes, reports and other declassified documents that, taken together, will lend the reader an understanding of the Babylonian position in world affairs.

                              Missive to Madrid

An effort to resolve the Africa land issue by peaceful means.

It is requested that Spain immediately handover any settlements in Africa to the Carts. In so doing I'm sure the world community will look favourably upon your actions and redeem Spain's standing in the world. This, along with reparations payable to Rome for tech stealing will ensure the security of Spain. Any other line of action will result in disastrous consequnces for Spain.
