It sounds crazy -- it sounds silly -- it sounds like fun. I'm in.

So we're looking at a rule or two to abide by for round one, build to two to four for round two, make it 3-5 for round three, and so on?

I think that a coupon for each player has a lot of merit as well.

Sounds like one of the dealor's choice seven card stud games I played once -- place & show, twist your neighbor.

The 'coupon' could be one of the rules in the list...

Yet another New Idea (maybe for next summer)

As we start the beginning of the end for Lazy (and maybe a couple more) the thought occurred to me that we might enjoy another game "playing" with the modern units.

So I propose -- no attacks (ever) with land units other than Jeep, Tank, or Howie; no ship attacks until DD; no purchases until spy.

Yup -- a bit of a barb awkwardness -- plan ahead. (but even then, this looks like it may be too easy...Hmmm wonder what we could do to make this a little more challenging?)

I have been wondering why we don't take the game seriously and ban some of the exploits which make it so much easier for the humans. First of all, no incremental rushbuying., Buy it all or not at all! Alternatively, the SMAC version seems fair - only one PRB per city per turn. But I like the rigorous "'touch-move" variant better.

This looks like the Goody Two-Shoes game - only nice and excessively correct behavior allowed. No bribing, reputation must remain spotless, all diplomatic requests must be granted, and extra gifts given on special birthdays. Spaceship, of course. Libraries are ok, because anybody can use them, but Universities are hotbeds of lascivious behavior and should be only allowed with police stations. Marketplaces are ok, but banks are agents of potential usury and must be prohibited. Stock exchanges would not be possible, but if they were, it is just gambling and is obviously immoral. Temples and cathedrals must be built in all cities. No red faces are ever allowed. Certain Wonders are OK - the Oracle and Eiffel Tower, of course - but anything smacking of presumption must be denied. No Colossus or Pyramids (too big), no HG (seeks to glorify a tyrant) LH is borderline - it is big and ostentatious but helps stranded mariners. Women's Suffrage must be built, on a beeline. Monarchy is of course forbidden, but for every turn in Despotism penance must be made.

And units are a problem. Warriors are just young hoodlums and are forbudden. Phalanx has nice uniforms. Archers - pretty nasty aggressive sods. Legins - OK, more nice uniforms. Dips - fine, but they can''t bribe anything. Chariots - too ostentatious. Ditto Elephants. Knights - fine. Pikemen - too crude. Crusaders - of course. Horsemen - fine, but they have to stick to dressage (never attack). Triremes - a slave ship???? Never!. Caravels - OK.

No city can be more than one size bigger than its closest rival.

              Does this have possibilities?

Grigor, this sounds like a religious tyrant. Call it the Savronola Game. It would be very punishment oriented, though not necessarily toward the AI. Another title could be, The Wages of Original Sin, or How We Learned to Accept Our Guilt.

                Seems a bit bleak.

How's about doing all that under fundy?

GotM whatever number at CFC ages ago was played with fundy from the start by using cheat mode. We could try something similar here, but having to use a spaceship.

OK it’s been a few months since I’ve started a sxn game, and I have an idea that I’m kicking around. My first couple of offerings (Silly & Lazy) were designed to get us to the late game and enjoy the fun of playing with the advanced units.

This time I’d like to focus on the other side. I’d like to learn/exercise the science and art of early conquest & improve that part of my game. To that end, I’m thinking of a game that will force us to move out & conquer.

Two rules come to mind: #2 -- If anyone discovers Industrialization, we lose. GAME OVER.

#1 -- The last tech we will research is Tactics. (better get Magnetism beforehand…)

                    Bloodlust. MGE. Giga. Restarts…ON.

Oooh! I like it! But I fear that restarts on (which ends no earlier than 1500 AD) will not so much inspire us to quick work as inhibit gameplay - for instance, a likely strategy is to knock each civ down to one city and whack 'em in 1500, which will probably mean 1000 years of 'press Enter.'

Smash used to routinely run to chivalry and conquer large (admittedly not Giga) maps by about 500AD, so I think we need to hamstring the Civvers a little more.

How about No Partial Rushbuying - you buy it, you build it!

I don't entirely agree - yes early conquest is second nature to many players here - but not to all - although early conquest would have been acceptable in nearly all our Succession Games a pre 1500 victory has yet to be achieved by The Academy. Let us do it first - then hamstring us next time.

Not on my watch! Lose the Lighthouse and all those lovely Super 'Clads. NEVER!
Anyway - Tactics is for wimps, Monotheism is quite good enough!

OK, I agree. Pre-1500 conquest is an excellent goal for the Academy. When does the party begin? And should we have this a set lineup or use the new, improved free-forall setup?
