Call To Power 2 Cradle 3+ mod in progress: https://apolyton.net/forum/other-games/call-to-power-2/ctp2-creation/9437883-making-cradle-3-fully-compatible-with-the-apolyton-edition
Sigh. For the second weekend in a row, there is trouble with the DSL line. It's dead, my ISP blames it on the phone company, and says they won't have any more info until tomorrow. I've suspended the pitboss server so time will stop counting down. I will post an update when I know anything more or when the line comes back up.
DSL is still down, no estimated time to repair. The estimated time until I yell at my ISP some more, however, is about 5 minutes. I'll keep you all posted.
I have spoken with my ISP once again and they claim that a telephone company technician will visit my premises by 1:30 AM EST (that's 6 hours from now).
I was not aware that the telephone company was in the habit of coming to peoples' apartments at 1:30 in the morning, but if someone does come, that will be fine. I am told that the technician will do his or her work from the telephone network interface and will not require access to the apartment (which is good since I will be sleeping).
However, do not get your hopes up yet. Unless the technician they send has considerably different training and test equipment than the ones I am used to dealing with, I strongly doubt that he will be able to find the cause of the problem. The problem exists at layer 2, between the telephone company's DSLAM and our ISP's PPPoE access concentrator. I have tried to inform my ISP of this fact several times, but the people on the phone either did not know what I was talking about or assumed that I didn't know what I was talking about (like a typical customer).
Nevertheless, I will keep trying, and I will keep you updated with any information I receive.
As usual, the telephone company missed its deadline. A technician did come out this morning just before I left for work but he was unable to access the building wiring closet. The wiring closet is unlocked now but the phone company won't be able to make it back until tomorrow morning.
I am putting as much pressure as I can on my ISP to look into the actual problem and not just wait for the phone company to declare the loop clean (which it is), but I don't seem to be getting very far with them.
Well, it looks like my harassment of my ISP with technical details of their own systems paid off; someone fixed the actual problem and called off the phone man appointment. The line is up for now and hopefully it will stay that way. I will be monitoring it closely for any problems and will let you know if any crop up.
